Publisher's Summary

It's one of the biggest lies you've probably heard your entire life: Mastering one specific skill set is the key to success. That may have been true 20 years ago, but in today's global economy, being the best at a single thing just doesn't cut it anymore.

Think about those people who somehow manage to be amazing at everything they do - the multi-millionaire CEO with the bodybuilder physique or the rock star with legions of adoring fans. We all quietly envy them from time to time - how do they manage to be so much better at life?

It’s tempting to believe they've achieved greatness because they're the very best in their field... or think that maybe it's just dumb luck. But it's much more than that. They've defied traditional perceptions of success by acquiring and applying multiple skills to make themselves valuable to others. They’ve become generalists.

In How to Be Better at Almost Everything, best-selling author, fitness expert, entrepreneur, and professional business coach Pat Flynn shares the secrets to learning (almost) every skill, from marketing to music to martial arts to writing and relationships, teaching how to combine interests to achieve greatness in any field. His direct, “Generalist” approach to self-improvement gives you the tools you need to make your mark on the world and make buckets of money - without losing your soul.

Discover how to:

  • Learn any skill with only an hour of practice a day through repetition and resistance.
  • Package all your passions into a single toolkit for success with skill stacking
  • Turn those passions into paychecks by transforming yourself into a person of interest.

In today’s fast-paced, constantly evolving world, it’s no longer good enough to have a single specialty. To really get ahead you need a diverse portfolio of hidden talents you can pull from your back pocket at a moment’s notice. How to Be Better at Almost Everything teaches you how to gain a competitive edge in both your professional life and personal life.

All you need for a fullfiled and productive life!

After reading a hundred best rated books about self-development and business, I have to say this one easily makes the top five. I will explain why in a second, but first, let me say that after listening to this audiobook, I am going to order a hardcover copy and give it a prime spot on my bookshelf.

Why did this book make me so excited?

1. Firstly, it offers a unique ideology for personal progress. Pat Flynn didn’t just rephrase knowledge from other books (which is quite a common practice nowadays), but he gave the world a whole new priceless point of view.

2. Secondly, the book gives you a well-thought blueprint for living a more fulfilled and more successful life. It’s gives you a complete framework and all the tools you need to create a better tomorrow for yourself and the people around you. All the thoughts and practices are connected and conveyed with a sense of clarity and completeness.

3. Thirdly, I immediately connected with the book because I am good at many things and has a hard time choosing what to focus on, which is exactly the premise of the book. If you, however, are a type that is extremely specialized at one thing, this book won’t probably make a lot of sense to you.

4. Last, but not least, Pat Flynn is an excellent narrator with a brisk sense of humor and a great deal of motivational urgency in his tone that makes you get up and act!

The funny thing is, I hadn't heard about Pat Flynn before reading this book. I mean this Pat Flynn. There is another Pat Flynn, equally famous, the guy behind Smart Passive Income blog, who, I thought, wrote this book. To my surprise, this author is another person with the same name, but also (unbelievably) with the same or better quality of material and delivery!

Respect! I became a big fan and heartfully recommend reading this book to anyone interested in getting ahead in their life.

Short and to the point

Excellent book. Reads like a distillation of many self-help books I’ve read. Pat Flynn does a good job of laying out important good mindset and important life skills.

Very Good!

I really enjoyed this book. It explains how to essentially build a system around acquiring new skills without getting overwhelmed by all of the things that you want to learn. It is a much needed book in today's world of information abunance.

Although I applaud Pat for being unapologetic about his faith, my only criticism is that he may lose certain people (non theistic people) in a book like this when he relies on his faith to make a point.

That being said, he still blended things well and he probably doesn't care about pleasing everyone, which is good. Open minded people should have no problem utilizing the info and looking past what they may disagree with.

I'd give the book a 4.9 if I could! I appreciate your work Pat! Thank you.

1 simple point and our dude wrote a full book on it

Since there is just one simple point in this book, which I think if Pat was a good bouy he could have just mentioned it in his podcast or on his YouTube channel...but he went with this $19 book. So be prepared to listen to a LOT of fluff.

A little disappointed

This book reminded me of a movie with a great concept, but it just didn't deliver. I was excited to see a book about being a generalist, but I don't feel like I know much more about the subject than when I started. I was pleased to see some references to skills other than physical fitness, even though the author spent a lot of time discussing that subject as well. If this book did anything for me, it inspired me to do more research and to try to find other speakers on the subject. It is a worth while read in that sense.

You won't be bored! Best elite coaching for less

Great read. Universal techniques presented in a common-sense book. Making this a must-read for my children, so they can start considering their options early on. Specialized in Marketing (earned two degrees) ended up in the technology industry. I acquired several certifications along the way and self-taught myself the rest. This resulted in a lucrative career. Not saying college was a waste of time, but I invested a lot of money in a discipline I'm no longer in. Purchased the audio version and hardcopy for notes/highlighting. Both worth every cent. Flynn talks about George Washington Carver--less than 10 percent of the population even knows who the man was or what he did for the USA. Cover to cover, Flynn recognizes greatness and ingenuity, provides step-by-step quick start plan, offers sound philosophy to help steer your decisions in a way it really matters...all packaged in a You've-got-to-be-a-dumba**-not-to-get-this way. (Just saying...) I highly recommend this book to kick-start your next project/ideas/dreams. Just make sure you plan to do the work.

Pat found religion and wants you to as well

While the first 2/3 of the book are filled with short dits and useful experience, The latter unfortunately becomes essentially “I found God now here’s why you should too”

Nothing new here

I purchased this with high hopes but offered very little new information that wasn't common sense. Also, any of the specifics like the workout proposal was ridiculously complicated. Surely at minimum key actions and the workout should have been put in a PDF that people could download.

This book is an eye opener

I have always considered that being a generalist was the be all and end all and I found it hard to comprehend how a person could have a career in one field then take on another career which on the surface looked to opposite of the previous one. But as this book shows, having garnered knowledge and experiences on fields that align with one core belief is essential to stand out and be unique.

Pat is the man

Pat is both entertaining and intelligent. If you know his story then this supports the message of this book. Loved it.
