Story
Ofelia Archer is living the dream...or as close as seemingly possible. She owns her own business, her father seems to be on an even keel, and her new relationship with detective Zacharias Sully is cruising right along. Everything changes in an instant, though, when screams from the street lead to zombies running amok through the French Quarter. Ofelia is a tough witch who takes no guff but even she is at a loss. Who is creating the zombies? Where are they coming from? They’re not rising from the dead as much as being bumped off and used as an invading army.
Publisher's Summary
Welcome to Hemlock Cove, where the town is magically rebranded - but real witches aren't necessarily welcome.
That makes things hard for the Winchester witches - including local newspaper reporter Bay. She's got a persnickety family - wait until you met Aunt Tillie - and a penchant for stumbling across trouble.
Thankfully for Bay, she's got loyal cousins and the ability to talk to ghosts as she tries to solve mysteries and put souls to rest.
Follow Bay as she meets a man who is more than he seems and tries to hide a history that is centuries in the making.
This is the first three books in the Wicked Witches of the Midwest cozy mystery series. It includes: Any Witch Way You Can, Every Witch Way But Wicked, and Witching You Were Here.

Mixed bag
It's sort of hard to judge the writing, which - aside from needing some serious editing - seems pretty good.
The narration is another story. Read at break-neck speed, with little differentiation between the main characters (I know it's got to be hard, three cousins and their three mothers, but still, that's your job). Some line readings are just so off it's painful - and worse, certain words are constantly mispronounced (vehemently is not read as vee-HEM-ently, e.g.). Also, the three cousins are supposed to be in their twenties but come off sounding like 16yo Valley girls.
Can't totally blame the narrator: what were the director or producer doing?

Narrator needs to slow down
The narrator really needs to slow down. It sounds like someone is trying to speed read aloud. The story sounds interesting for urban fantasy, but I couldn’t get past the second chapter (15 minutes in).
I just finished the six Cosy Witch; audiobooks by Tess Lake (4-5/5). I was hoping to find another urban fantasy series to listen to at bedtime and around the house. But it’s not this one - nor any other read by this narrator. I’m returning this one and might buy the ebook sometime later.

Like woah.
Loved the story but the narrator made everyone sound like an angsty teen. Like Jimmy Fallon's Sara character in his "Ew!" skits. I think the inflection was off? I love Aunt Tilly and would like to see the Moms fleshed out more. Just because you are over 50 doesn't mean your life is over! Hopefully I will get my wish in later books.

Pronunciation!
Wow, just wow. Does anyone listen to these before they turn them out? And what was with the adverbs? The story had a good concept and fun characters but it was a struggle to get through the road blocks to the end.

Good story but....
These stories were very entertaining once I was able to get past the horrible narration. The narrator read way too fast, mispronounced numerous words, and frequently paused where no comma could have been. I find it hard to believe they let her narrate books two and three.

Very light read, a bit annoying
I liked the idea of the stories, they're supposed to be nice, fun, cozy mysteries, which they actually are... if you find grown women thinking and acting like teenagers funny. Trust me, it's not just the narration, they don't just sound like teenagers, they act and think like teenagers. I actually don't blame the narrator, I think she portrayed them like this after reading the books. After book 2 it becomes a bit frustrating instead of funny, but I did enjoy listening to the box set.

Not worth it
What disappointed you about How Witch It Is?
I could only get through the first book, the mystery was ridiculous. All they do to try to find the murderer is ask the ghosts, the plot is almost non-existant.
Has How Witch It Is turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
How did the narrator detract from the book?
There is no distinction between the voices you never know which character is talking.

Childish
I wish I wouldn't have purchasedctge 3 book pack. The constant childish arguing and back talk amongst the characters lowers the IQ of the listener. The 90's "valley girl" of the narrator is nails on a chalk board.

Light to the point of being empty
Is there anything you would change about this book?
All of the main characters. They're one-dimensional petulant and narcissistic. There are plot holes. The writing keeps repeating words within a sentence or phrases within a paragraph.
What was most disappointing about Amanda M. Lee’s story?
It could have been light-hearted fun, but with no heart and no fun, it's light, with only faults to stand out.
Do you think How Witch It Is needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
It's clearly aimed at having a follow-on book, but I won't be bothering with it.
Any additional comments?
It would have got 2.5 for all categories, but I've divided it into two 2s and a 3.
