Publisher's Summary

A deeply personal exploration of love in all its forms from a feminist icon and best-selling author of Fight Like a Girl and Boys Will Be Boys.

There is love in this place, just like there is love everywhere we care to look for it. There is beauty and there is hope and there is a boy and there is a mother and there is the past and there is the future but most importantly there is the now and everything that exists between them that has got them from one moment to the next. The now is where we find the golden glow where, for the briefest of moments, the sky rips open and we see what it is we are made of.

Tell me a story, he asked me.

And so I began.

Clementine Ford is a person who has loved deeply, strangely and with curiosity. She is fascinated by love and how it makes its home in our hearts and believes that the way we continue to surrender ourselves to love is an act of great faith and bravery.

This tender and lyrical memoir explores love in its many forms, through Clementine's own experiences. With clear eyes and an open heart, she writes about losing her adored mother far too young, about the pain and confusion of first love - both platonic and romantic - and the joy and heartache of adult love. She writes movingly about the transcendent and transformative journey to motherhood and the similarly monumental path to self-love. 'We love as children, as friends, as parents and, yes, sometimes as sexual beings, and none of it is more important than the other because all of it shows us who we are.'

How We Love is heartfelt, funny, confessional, revelatory, compassionate - and essential listening. It shows us to ourselves in moments of unwavering truth and undeniable joy.

Clementine Ford is a writer, broadcaster and feminist community builder living in Naarm/Melbourne. She is the best-selling author of the feminist manifestos Fight Like a Girl and Boys Will Be Boys, which have also been published to great acclaim in the UK and the US. In 2017, she won the Matt Richell Award for Best New Writer of the Year at the ABIAs.

I could listen to her voice and stories all day

I could listen to her voice and stories all day, and I did, for 2 days straight in-between parenting 2 little humans. She made me heart feel the full spectrum of emotions. She made me look at my life differently and come to terms with emotions of my own. I will be showing this book to my daughters when they are young teenagers, because How We Love, is important and vast and encompassing and powerful and ever evolving, and I want them to hear a story of a strong woman, who felt all the feelings , “failed” all her failures and still not only survives but prospers.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking, soul-touching, vulnerable piece of writing. My most favourite book of Clementine Fords, to date.

Clementine Ford has been misunderstood and hated by far too many. After listening to her book surly you would be only able to love her as a writer, inspiration, parent, woman, girl, friend, partner and so much more!
This book had inspired, laughing and crying several times and many of the time at the same time.

Wholesome and Honest

I can’t imagine anyone else narrating this, Clementine has a soothing voice, and nobody else can better articulate the emotion warranted to deliver a story on her life. I cried, then I laughed, then I related, and finally I reflected. Highly recommend.

Honest and insightful in parts

I really appreciated the honesty with which Clementine Ford wrote this book but often found myself at odds with her approach/world view. Her attitude towards men was particularly jarring.

Clementine described my emotional life.

Such a talented writer and narrator! I love her honesty and rawness. We need more Clementines in our life. She pretty much covered the emotional life of my younger self and how I often feel and think now. Loved it.

glorious

Just beautiful, like a hug for a woman's (who happens to be a mum) soul.
