Tedious
This is like listening to someone read from one of those 'Page-a-Day' calendars, but without the passion. The narrator sounds like a pleasant young man who was given a reading assignment. For example, when he introduces each day's reading, he gives a brief biographical note on the author of the quotation and then -- without changing his inflection to indicate that he is now quoting the author -- he instantly transitions into the quotation itself. To say that it is distracting is an understatement. Jarring would be a better word. The quotations are mostly interesting, but the book is not meant to be read (or listened to) for more than about 5 minutes at a time -- the quotation of the day.

Disappointed
What would have made How Great Is Our God better?
Oops...I thought I was getting complete essays; not little snippits. This is like a little flip calendar, thought-of-the-day book.

Like having a library in one book
What made the experience of listening to How Great Is Our God the most enjoyable?
It is fascinating to hear what these theologians have to say over the past 2000 years
What other book might you compare How Great Is Our God to and why?
There are books written about or by nearly every author in this book but this gives you a taste for what they had to say and if you are really interested you can get them later
Would you listen to another book narrated by Bill DeWees?
Absolutely, he does a very good job.

Sounds like Casey Kasem reads the Bible
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I don't know
Has How Great Is Our God turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Bill DeWees?
Me, you, anybody else.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Confusion and aversion
Any additional comments?
I think it may be a great book. I couldn't get past the flat hollow Hollywood radio announcer voice of the reader.I am expecting a reading of the most deep and powerful personal spiritual moments known to the West; I'm expecting subtle or direct revelations of men's understanding of, and relationship to, God.What could be more sacred and delicate and raw? I would expect the reader to embody that (at least a little) in his reading, but I detected no sensitivity to the subject, just a direct reading that is not even clear structurally or linguistically.Listen to the sample before you buy. Maybe it's just me. I have no beef with the subject, Just wish I wouldn't have bought it.

Classic writings of Christian thinkers.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This book seemed to cover such a broad range of topics and I never really found something that left me thinking and pondering about the writings.

Classic
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No
Any additional comments?
The only problem with the audio version is that they only give scripture references. Wished he would read the scripture also. I listen to this while getting ready in the morning. Do not have time to to look up the scripture because this is a supplement to my devotional. Otherwise it is a great daily listening.

Excellent Inspiring Informative
I bought this several years ago and have listened to it off and on since. There are some who are taking off stars because of the narrator and I’m not sure why. His voice is excellent, and yes it’s familiar however it in no way detracts from my enjoyment. I’ve have been blessed as a born again Christian for decades and have been a student of His Word ever since. I have many books ranging in depth be it philosophy, theology, biographies, commentaries and so on. How Great Is Our God has introduced me to more amazing Christians with inspiring stories of walking in the Light. My library now includes some titles from those mentioned here. So yes, I’m delighted with how this book has whetted my appetite to learn more. I love studying so I’m perfectly happy with looking up the verses suggested because I want to read the verses before the one suggested and maybe the ones after to better grasp the content. No book other than the Bible has all the information a reader would want which is why I’m surprised that anyone would give less than 4 stars. To me having one book with so much information is exciting and their stories and words of faith are inspiring.

So-So
The readings themselves were often interesting, but they were in random order. I would have preferred either chronologically, to trace the development of Christian thought, or topical, to focus on a given theme. Instead there seems to be no rhyme or reason in the selections and the order they are presented.
The narrator made me sleepy.

Great on the coffee table. Awful in audio.
A really interesting work but I'm sticking it on my Amazon wish-list. Just doesn't work in spoken word. Entries are brief, you lose track of which author's work you're listening to and you can't just 'flick back' and look like you can in a book. Also helpful to have a Bible on hand. Arranged as a 'reading a day' work that really didn't suit the way I listen to audio books. Back to paper.
