About this listen

Is your husband so horrible that you’d ask your best friend to kill him?

Penny: I know my husband has cheated on me. But I can’t believe what I just found in the bedside drawer. Are my children safe... ?

Lisa: The first time he did it was on our wedding anniversary. He broke down in tears afterwards. That’s the thing about Simon. He’s always sorry... until the next time.

Holly: My husband is useless. He just loafs around the house all day and spends my money. But now I think he’s done something far worse.

We’ve descended on Penny’s stunning country home for a rare girls’ weekend.

As the cocktails flow, it turns out we’re all keeping secrets. Bloody hell, we sure can pick them.

We clink our glasses. “Here’s to our horrible husbands. May they get what’s coming to them.”

Good friends will die for you. But only best friends will kill for you.

Enjoyable listen, with a few twists along the way. Preferring British accents, it was narrated well. 3 women, friends since childhood, get together for a reunion weekend.
Worth a listen from the included library!

I’ve read Jessica Huntley before and knew to expect something dark, relationship - driven and very readable, and Horrible Husbands delivered on that for me overall.
Told across three POVs - Lisa, Holly and Penny - the story follows three lifelong friends who, during a rare weekend away together, start opening up about the realities of their marriages. What unfolds is a dark domestic suspense story that leans heavily into friendship dynamics, secrets, and the long shadow toxic relationships can cast over every part of your life.
As an audiobook, this worked really well for me. Having separate narrators for each POV made it easy to stay grounded in each character’s perspective, which is especially important in a multi - POV story. The pacing felt steady and it was definitely an easy story to keep listening to.
For me, this leaned more character - driven suspense than high - twist, shock - factor thriller. I enjoyed seeing how the friendships and marriages were layered, but I personally wanted a bit more tension and punch in some of the bigger moments. That said, it was still a solid, entertaining listen with a premise that will absolutely appeal to readers who enjoy darker domestic drama and morally messy characters.
If you like friendship thrillers, secrets inside marriages, and darker relationship dynamics, this will likely work well for you.
