Publisher's Summary

A brave woman’s flight from the past leads her toward new love in a novel about courage, hope, and second chances by Catherine Bybee, New York Times bestselling author of My Way to You.

After Erin Fleming escapes from her controlling and abusive ex, she finds refuge in the heart of Santa Clarita, California. Eager to start over, she has a new name, a new look, and a new career. Settled into a private guesthouse, Erin can breathe free. Far from the shadows she’s outrun, Erin is finally learning to live for herself. Her new unexpected friendship with her landlord starts to crack open the armor Erin’s enclosed herself in. But it’s Matt who speeds up the pace of Erin’s heart and makes her wish for things she believes she can never have.

Matt Hudson, a firefighter in one of California’s wildfire epicenters, has a passion for danger. He lives for the adrenaline rush his profession awards him. But his protective instincts take over once Matt meets Erin. So does an attraction he can’t deny. Above all else, he’s determined to prove to Erin that she can trust him. As the sparks between them ignite, so does a real-world danger. Erin’s past is not letting go. It’s just in hiding.

Before Erin’s ex finds her, she and Matt have to find him. And finally put an end to everything that’s becoming a threat to their love, and to Erin’s life.

I enjoyed the first book in this series and was looking forward to this installment.

I liked Erin's story more than Parker's. There was just something so hopeful about her story. You can't help but cheer for her as she overcomes the crappy past.

I love the Hudson family and want them to adopt me.

Enjoyable narration that kept me involved the the story.

Narrator Spoiled It For Me!

Darn I was looking forward to this book; unfortunately the narrator really spoiled this audiobook for me. I really had to force myself to listen to the entire thing. The female voices were just okay and all the male voices sounded like teenage boys or younger...so irritating! Plus the narrator was not consistent with the voices of the characters so you weren’t really sure who was speaking at times. The book was really good when I could just ignore the voices and listen to the story. I would recommend to just purchase the ebook and forget about the audiobook for this one. I wish I had! If this narrator is the same for book 3 I will pass on the audiobook and purchase the ebook instead.

ugh, narration is PAINFUL

I almost stopped listening several times because this narrator was very lacking for the majority of male characters. Most of the time Matt and Collin were okay but occasionally Matt would relapse to a whiny little something like the other men. Big, strong firefighters being reduced to elementary school kids was painful. Part of story I gagged on was Austin at the pool hitting on Grace. Way too immature, even for an 18 year old boy. I don't know if I'll be able to handle Grace's story since it's the same narrator, but I'll check...

love!!

I absolutely loved this book. Such a good second book to the series. I'm so happy I saw more of Colin and Parker. The narrator took a whole to get used to but once I did, I loved it!

Great Story Not great Narration

This story was great and it would have been so much better with a different narrator for the men. It was a little hard to listen to at times! The story though was really good and had me tearing up at times. I loved Matt he was such a good guy!

Easy read

Want a sweet, little bit naughty, romantic suspense story? This one is. The only drawback in the audible version is the female reader doesn’t have a voice that translates to male. We have a male love interest who is supposed to be a tall, muscular, alpha type firefighter but the voice sounds like a middle schooler whose voice hasn’t matured yet. Surely, dual readers, male and female, would enhance the story. Just my thoughts...

Nice story - as always, horrible performance

I like Catherine Bybee's books, I never read one, always buy the audiobooks and always listen to them more than once. Not this one. While the story is entertaining and written in the typical Bybee-style, invites you to laugh and like the characters, the voice of Ms Sands made me cringe. Did anybody listen to this book before it was released? I don't think so. Please call Erin Bennett or Amy McFadden or another accomplished narrator for the next book.
