A new life in New Orleans is all Jason Thorpe had hoped: his quaint little store attracts a devoted staff and his warm, loving heart grants him a loyal circle of friends. He's perfectly content, having left behind the chill of a confusing and danger-filled night in Washington, until he discovers something unbelievable lurking in the steamy darkness of the shadowy streets of the Vieux Carré, something that turns out to be terrifying... and utterly mesmerizing. The prince of the vampyrs, Varic Maedoc, is visiting New Orleans when he finds out the man who once helped his counselor is there in the Quarter. He thinks to simply meet and thank Jason—until he lays eyes on him. Varic's devoted himself to protect the honor of his race, and he's never wanted a mate before... but he immediately knows he must have this man, and no one else will do. Varic may want to bring Jason safely into his world, but someone who doesn't like the human's soothing influence on vampyrs has deadly plans that would disrupt Varic's dreams. Now, unable to tell friend from foe, Jason finds himself wondering how to hold on to the prince's heart when he's fighting for his life.©2018 Dreamspinner Press (P)2018 Dreamspinner Press Literature & Fiction Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Paranormal Paranormal Romance Romance Supernatural Thriller & Suspense Fantasy New Orleans Fiction Exciting Heartfelt Royalty

The narrator did an amazing job, each of the voices made it easy to distinguish who was talking at any given time.
The writing style was really interesting I particularly liked how it was noted when new words were introduced the MC needed them defined not just left to guess.
The story irritated me as the MC is introduced as competent and a man of action but the relationship between him and the love interest seems to remove that entirely, making the relationship seem more like obsession and lust not actually a relationship.
Side charecters had more of a relationship ark.
This may not be an issue for many readers (in fact I can see many loving this story just for that detail) but made it hard for me to finish.

A great book for some people

The story got a bit weird. Started great where the main guy was super pragmatic and nice to a fault. I loved when he drove a guy to the hospital always assuming the guy was just on drugs or messed up. Then got a bit to explainy. “I need you to answer this question first…” NO you DONT. If someone tries to murder you you run to the safe protective people not wait to ask lots of questions…. I would love if there was more answers on why he needs so many questions asked…. Even if they said he was on the spectrum… that would be a good reason. Having said that I still loved the book, but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Love the narrator!!

Goodish

A good story but I want to have more. I want to be with them during trials at court.

Need more.

It just lost my interest
It was definitely not what I expected
Didn’t appeal to me
Did not even bother finishing after he met the prince

Beginning was interesting
