Publisher's Summary

Filled with the power of love and the beauty of nature, Heidi is a lyrical tale about a little girl sent to live in the mountains of the Swiss Alps with her grandfather. A grumpy recluse, her grandfather has isolated himself from his fellow townspeople and his church. In very little time, Heidi warms his heart; and she quickly charms the whole town and makes new friends, including young Peter, the goatherd. But when Heidi is sent away again to care for a young girl her own age, she must grow wise beyond her years, learning invaluable lessons that she will impart to others to better their lives.

In her best-known book, Johanna Spyri portrays how a child's radiant joy and simple faith can transform the world around her.

Kazablanka

Classic story, beautifully performed. I have seen 2 movie versions, but neither was as good as this telling from the book itself. Clearly was intended as religious instuction for children, and probably breaks the world record for the number of references to "joy" and "delight". But a true feel-good story.

Good book for audio

Well read. I enjoy listening as I go to sleep. This is a great audio for that or for listening to it you've not read the book in younger years.

High literary and moral content!

My daughter and I loved this classic. When I was young I haven't read this but I'm grateful that my daughter and I were able to read and enjoy this book. It promotes high character, trust in the goodness of God, comradery, friendship and love of nature. Every child must read this.

A childhood favorite, excellently narrated

The narration of this book was excellent. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing the story -- a childhood favorite of mine -- back to life for me.

Feels Like Home

This story stirs up a feeling of home within me! It's surprisingly insightful! I read this as a child, but as an adult I've enjoyed it more. As I'm in a difficult season, at many points I felt encouraged that God's ways and timing are perfect. He's still listening even when it seems some prayers go unanswered. The narrator, though not my favorite, still did a good job and I grew to enjoy her reading.

Sweet Heidi

Johanna Spyri is such a descriptive person. I could imagine myself in the mountains with Heidi and the goat boy. Stuck in the house to be schooled. Watching the stars on soft straw. Suggestions? This book is FOR EVERYBODY. A boy might even enjoy this a little.

Enjoyed the story though out. Will read it again I'm sure. Wishing I was able to share it with my granddaughters when they were younger.

Heidi

This was so poorly done. The first words in the sentences were cut off. POOR!

This is such an enchanting story. It is timeless, I will never tire of listening to it. Narrator was brilliant, nice voice to listen to and put the right expression into it. Loved every minute.

Rather spoiled by flat narration

This wonderfully inspiring story is rather spoiled by the narrator's flat monotone voice. I chose a woman narrator in the hope she could do the piping voice of Heidi, the calm, patient voice of Clara and the haughty voice of Rottonmeier. There are so many varied characters young and old, yet this lady narrator treats them all with the same, little varying, tone and a certain flatness of delivery. This rather put me off this version of the book.
