About this listen

When there is an industrial accident, some of the Morningstar Strain is actually released. The doctor who discovered the strain and her assistant will have to fight their way through Sprinters and Shamblers to save themselves, the vaccine, and the base. Then they discover that it wasn't an accident at all - somebody inside the facility did it on purpose. The war with the RSA and the infected is far from over.

my thoughts are in line with the reviews on amazon, particularly the one titled along the lines of whether brad munson read the original trilogy.

fantastic performance from the narrator, with distinct styles for each voice and good pacing.

SPOILERS:

several details were retconned; rebecca was mischaracterized — she went from a tough, independent woman to a teenage girl constantly fawning over mark stiles. i do like them together, but the way they were written — nope.

brewster only appeared at the end of the book with no details as to what he had been doing and where he had been, only to be acknowledged as a "hero of omaha". true, he played a huge role in securing omaha, but how did tales of him get to the newcomers? what exactly did he do after leaving omaha? not one mention of brewster was made to the newcomers in the entire book, yet everyone has heard of him.

characters getting killed off seemingly randomly, like the 3rd book. yes i'm sour about this for i have a fond spot for the original characters. so sue me.

stiles getting devoured by ~6 sprinters in bauer(?) the IT guy's basement. his next appearance is as if nothing happened; as if he'd suffered no injury. and where was bower the whole time? how did he manage to get sprinters in the basement without anyone noticing??? where did he hide during the attack that the sprinters did not turn on him???

RSA guys turning into sprinters — how??? they had no injuries; they seemingly turned willingly (or by coercion). still, this twist was a huge plot device.

i was glad to learn of the morningstar saga's continuation in book 4, but after this, i hesitate to read books 5 and 6.
you bet your ass i'll be continuing though.

not in line with z a recht's vision
