Publisher's Summary

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story of secondhand hearts and second chances…

It all started with a mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress.

Something blue.

I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old.”

Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true.

The name embossed on the blue stationery: Reed Eastwood, obviously the most romantic man who ever lived. I also discovered he’s the most gorgeous. If only my true-love fantasies had stopped there. Because I’ve since found out something else about Mr. Starry-Eyed.

He’s arrogant, cynical, and demanding. I should know. Thanks to a twist of fate, he’s my new boss. But that’s not going to stop me from discovering the story behind his last love letter. A love letter that did not result in a happily ever after.

But that story is nothing compared to the one unfolding between us. It’s getting hotter, sweeter, and more surprising than anything I could have imagined.

Something new.

But I have no idea how this one is going to end…

Beautiful <br />

I laughed out loud, get mad, cried and then laughed some more...what a ride! I was hooked from the very 1st little blue note to the very last. What a beautiful and real story and the narration brought it all to life. Such a lovely and well written story. Sometimes in life we all need a little spark of crazy, it often leads us down a path of beauty that we never could have imagined.

Surprising read

So for a while I was a little off put by the name. Eventually I ran out of other books to read so I chose this. I was pleasantly surprised!
There was numerous times in this story that I was literally laughing out loud, once to the point of tears. This is such a good read!

As they say, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, yup lesson learned haha.

A BLUSHING AUDIO REVIEW

It doesn’t take long before you become invested in Charlotte and Reed and captivated by their love story. The narrators were matched perfectly to their characters and did a superb job. I preferred the audio version of this book than the print. The narrators really brought out the personalities in their characters adding another dimension to the story.

I give the audio 4.5 Stars

***Hauntingly beautiful***

It's one of the most romantic story ever and sad too. I couldn't put it down, I have listened to it from ch.1 to the end. so romantic and beautiful. I'm one of Sebastian York biggest fan, he has the most sexiest and deepest voice ever *sighs* my first book if Lynn Barrington and I'm sure won't be the last, she is brilliant.

darling with a little d

I really enjoyed this slow burn enemies to friends to lovers office romance. It had plenty of laughs and quirky moments, but there were also very serious topics and issues addressed as well. Charlotte was the perfect complement to Reed. The light to his dark. I loved her overall outlook on life and that she was much more honest and forthcoming with her feelings. When we first meet Reed, he is an angry shell of the man he once was. He frustrated me at times, but I also fell in love with him as his walls came down and the all in, unconditional love romantic resurfaced. The push and pull in this one was delicious and though it hurt my heart, the issues and feelings our characters encounter felt real and honest. I think the book needed all of Charlotte's charm and crazy to offset the heavier moments that both our characters face. The majority of the novel is spent building up the tension between Reed and Charlotte and seeing their relationship evolve. As much as I enjoyed their journey, I think I needed to see more of them enjoying what they fought so hard to reach. The epilogue was incredibly sweet, but also somber. I respected the authors more for this though instead of trying to wrap everything up with a pretty (and unrealistic) bow.

There's a reason Sebastian York is so beloved by audiobook listeners. His narration as standoffish and closed off Reed was perfect. Lynn Barrington is a new narrator to me, but I thought she did a fantastic job as Charlotte. Both her male and female voices were clear and distinct and she delivered all of Charlotte's snark impeccably. I think the only minor issue I had (which I run into sometimes with audiobooks), was that for both narrators, there were a few times I wasn't sure if something was internal dialogue or actually spoken out loud. Overall, this was a great listen and is one of my favorites from this writing duo!

THIS IS MY LOVE NOTE..

Yet again these very talented authors kept me awake til the wee hours with their charming characters, their compelling plot with its secrets and their heartwarming yet heartbreaking romance between a burnt yet hopeful heroine and a closed off never going to happen hero. What ensued was a twisted pleasure as their chemistry built and built.. as their interactions became friendlier and friendlier.. as the walls started to crumble then get reinforced.. and, as the loveable heroine worked her many guileless charms to finally penetrate those impenetrable walls.

The addictive dual POV storyline had lots of delicious feels.. and a few heartbreaking ones too.. but the absolute perfection of the narration by two well-loved actors made this a seriously impressive audiobook that I wish I could give ten stars to.

Worth a credit? Absolutely.. and if you have no credits then beg, borrow or.. well, I will not encourage you to steal the money but what is the penalty for a first offence?

This was a fun book. Charlotte was a great characters, she is quirky, spontaneous and pretty blunt. Reed is your typical brooding rich guy who has baggage and a nasty Ex. I like that Charlotte brings out the best in Reed and helps him because spontaneous and fun. Reed's Grandmother Iris was my favorite thing about this book, she was nosy and pushy and made me laugh more than once. If your looking for fun romance with some drama and a HEA, this book might be for you.

Lynn Barrington was perfect for Charlotte, she brought out her quirkiness and did her inner monologue so good. And Sebastian York.... Need I say more... ok well fine I'll say a little more, I LOVE his voice but I will admit there is a very small part with a British character in this book and Sebyo doesn't do accents... I mean sometimes he does, it's odd cause if the character has 5 sentences, 3 of them have no accent. I've heard him do this before, he just doesn't keep up with the accents but that's ok with me cause it's Sebastian York.

Bucket List

I loved this book! Of course it's no surprise. I love both these authors so much. They are an easy one click everytime! This was almost like a fairy tale. Finding a dress with a mysterious note and wanting to know more about the person behind the note. Love the interaction between Reed and Charlotte and the bucket lists that were made. I didn't stop reading and listening to the audio till finished. A great book! I would listen and read again. Love SebYo and the new narrator Lynn. I haven't heard her before. Great job! Another favorite.

I can't even describe how good, great, amazing this book is. Vi and Penelope do not disappoint, as usual. I LOVE Charlotte. I LOVE Reed. The very real life twist, queue the salty discharge from your eyes.

Deeper than Expected

4.25 Stars
I haven’t read a lot of Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward but I know how beloved they are, and I have loved the few I read, so I went into Hate Notes (currently free in KU for both Kindle and audio or $1.99 Audible upgrade) with high expectations for a RomCom but got so much more. While there were absolutely some funny moments, this was a pretty emotional read as well.

Charlotte is having a really bad time of it. Catching her fiancé cheating at the office left her broken up and jobless. In need of money, she goes to sell her wedding dress, but can only get store credit. When she eyes a beautiful gown, she not only falls for the gown, but for the man who pinned the most romantic note ever inside of it. Curious to know more, Charlotte did some research and located the real estate executive responsible for the note, and arranged for a showing of a fancy apartment she could never afford.
"Such an a$$*ole. A gorgeous, arrogant a$$*ole who looked just as good going as he did coming."

Reed was a total jerk. So bad, he made the fun and vivacious Charlotte run crying to the bathroom where she met a lovely older woman who offered her a job. When she found out the job is at Reed’s company, the banter began.

“I wanted to taste her lips and suck away that sour look on her face, yet I knew that if there was one set of lips on this earth forbidden to me, it was Charlotte Darling’s. She wasn’t just a pretty face and a hot body. She was someone who wanted inside my soul, and that was never going to happen.”

Reed was so closed off. He fought his feelings for Charlotte every step of the way. She was the aggressor in the relationship, and we don’t learn why until towards the end of the book. Until then, I admit, I started to just not like Reed.

“You want to feel me for one night? I’ll make you feel me for days.”

Though there were a lot of familiar tropes, especially the enemies-to-lovers office trope, there was a very very unique twist that I related to on a very personal level, and I loved that the story dealt with that.

Once we got to know Reed’s motivations, I started to like him and Charlotte together. But he held back most of the book.

“I know with one hundred percent certainty that I am not the right man for you. You’re a dreamer, Charlotte. The biggest dreamer of them all. And you deserve to be with someone who won’t ever hold you back in life.”

Just when things got good, the book ended. Don’t get me wrong, it was good the whole time, but I felt like we waited the whole book for them to get their crap together, and once they did, it was over. I would have loved to see them enjoy each other for a bit!
“Love wasn’t about a beautiful dress, a note, or even poignant words. It was about being with someone through thick and thin, about seeing them through not only the best moments of life but also the worst.”

Likes:

•I loved Charlotte.
•Air typing is my new favorite thing.
•Banter always wins me over.
•There was way more than a rom-com here, there was some serious emotions.
•Wonderful supporting characters.
•The Dual POV really added to this story and saved me from disliking Reed too much to come back from.

Dislikes:

•It took a very long time to really like the hero.
•She chased him a little too much for my liking.
•A very slow burn then a too-quick end. I would have liked more happy together time.

Not Sure How I Felt:

•The epilogue kind of ruined the end for me a bit, yet at the same time, it worked for the story. I just didn’t like how it made me feel.

The Narration:
Sebastian York worked great for this, and Lynn Barrington was new to me I think, but I loved her performance.

The Down & Dirty:
Hate Notes went much deeper than the cover or blurb would lead you to believe. While this covered a lot of familiar tropes, there was a very unique thread that ran through the book, but you don't discover it until late in the story. I think if it happened sooner my enjoyment would have even increased more. As it was, it took a lot for me to love the hero. Once he redeemed himself, I would have liked a little more couple time before the epilogue. Still, I am very glad I grabbed this one, and I look forward to more from this duo.

Funny, Sweet and Sexy

The Narrations by Sebastian York and Lyn Barrington were great I really love how the brought each character to life, making us feel every emotion the characters were feeling and living at that moment as well as the narration for the secondary characters.. overall their work was amazing.. looking forward to hearing more of their narrations..

..........................

Hate Notes was a light, fun read, with great characters and a great story that will keep you hooked until the end..

Charlotte was trying to build her life again, after such a hard breakup but she wasn't prepared for the changes were about to happen, not only she spends hours spilling her gut to a stranger in the middle of a bathroom, about her life and bad luck with men. but also she meets the love of her life without even knowing where was life going to take them..

-' I'd joked about Charlotte Darling and her pixie dust. There was always something magical about her, the way she'd just appeared in my life and turned it upside down.'

Reed was so invested in his career that he wasn't looking for anything formal, his past keeps trying to stop him from anything that made him feel happy.. he just wants to focus on what's important but life has other plans for him and sooner or later someone special will change him forever.

-' You're beyond my wildest dreams. My love for you is infinite. You. Are. Everything.'

I laugh a lot with Charlotte, I love that she was strong and she didn't take anything from Reed or anybody, she always stood her ground and made everybody know how she was feeling. she was bold and didn't hesitate to talk about her feelings and that's exactly what made it impossible to stay out of her side.

-' Love wasn’t about a beautiful dress, a note, or even poignant words. It was about being with someone through thick and thin, about seeing them through not only the best moments of life but also the worst.'

Overall the story was great, I laugh so much and cry with Reed's stubbornness more like I wanted to bring some sense to him.. I love the relationship and bond Iris and Charlotte have, it was really nice to see Iris supporting and helping to make possible something she knew was meant to be.. I also loved the changes of Reed character, in the beginning, he shows us a side of him that it felt cold but as the story goes, we get to see the real Reed, a romantic gentleman that was hiding all his love.

Get ready for a great ride..

Laughed. Cried. Laughed some more

Another hit from the dynamic duo, Vi and Penelope!

The sexy scenes happened over halfway through the book and I wasnt even mad! That’s how great the story is. Their chemistry, banter.... it’s sooo good! The characters are very well-written. I love all of them.

Narration – cant go wrong with Sebastian York. He is one of my faves! This is the first time Ive listened to Lynn Barrington and she is pretty good!

LOVED THE CHARACTER AND THE HUMOR

4.5 STARS

I adored Charlotte and Reed and I adored this story. basically, anything Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward turn's out I go gaga over I love their writing, the plots and the characters.

HATE NOTES was So good, so many times I've burst into laughter, I love the characters.

A bit about the plot;
When Charlotte finds a note pinned inside a wedding dress, a love letter to his future wife, Charlotte becomes curious about the man who wrote it and why was the dress now in a second hand store were she was taking her own dress, she knows her story and why she's no longer a blushing bride but why this dress?

Curiosity gets the better of Charlotte and she decides to stalk Reed on Facebook and try and find out more about the man behind the note, maybe it would renew her faith in love again. A drunken night leads to an appointment to view an apartment with Reed, an apartment way above her finances but she goes along with the viewing just to see the man. Reed is onto Charlotte and calls her out, you could say he was rude and arrogant and Charlotte ends up leaving the apartment upset.

Let's just say Charlotte finds herself crying in the bathroom of the building, disappointed with the man behind the note who wasn't what she was expecting at all. Charlotte finds herself unloading everything to a dear old lady in the bathroom of the building, everything, all about her ex, about being jobless and the reason she was so curious to go to see the man who she now hated. Charlotte comes away with a job offer and new hope for her current hopeless life.

When Charlotte and Reed meet again it definitely gets interesting, I laughed at Charlotte she was so funny without trying to be, she certainly could put the stuffy guy in the bow tie in his place and she did so over and over. I loved the love-hate relationship Charlotte and Reed had going on. Reed couldn't escape her even if he wanted to it seemed his Grandmother loved her and she had been hired to be the family's PA.

A great light and humorous romance with a heartwarming hea. I loved it and would definitely recommend. I listened on audio and as always with these two authors choice of narrators it was brilliant, the narrators really brought the characters and the story to life.

absolutely loved this

wow I really enjoyed this book.
The narration was excellent and the storyline so much more than just a basic love story full of sex to fill the pages. It held my interest all the way through, a good story with laugh out loud funny moments and some sadness that brought tears to my eyes.... I have enjoyed most of Vi Keelands books but when read by Sebastian York they take on a whole new dimension. Lynn Barrington was also really good ... I hope my next read is as good as this one.

A great heart warming story

First off, I want to say that any author savvy enough to use Sebastian York and Lynn Barrington for their narration are half way to a decent book already.
As with all romance audiobooks, the delivery is key, and Sebastian York has The most panties melting voices in the industry.

Ok. Now I've got my fan girling out of the way, the story.

Charlotte Darling has split from her fiance, after she caught him and his secretary in his office, while she was 'bobbing for apples' ans its not even Halloween. Tsk Tsk.
So, Charlotte takes her wedding dress to a store that sells second hand wedding dresses. They don't give cash but credit. While in the store she rummaged through all the other dresses, wondering what their story was. She comes across a beautiful dress with a note seen inside.

This note sparks a whole new life for Charlotte as she reads the note, written by Reed Eastwood to his then fiancee, Alison, and sets out to find the man who wrote such a romantic love note.

Oh she finds him alright, but that meeting doesn't quite go to plan... All I can say is, Dog Surfer Trainer... but maybe the universe has decided that these two people needed to meet in order to find themselves and the real meaning of true love.

I highly recommend this book. It is written well and narrated well.

Beautiful beyond words

I put this off this book for a while but I'm so glad I've gotten around to it how-what a truly amazing story, beautiful, deep, emotional, funny, lots of banter! I'm an emotional mess writing this fresh from the end of this audio, Reed and Charlotte are soulmates in everyday- so many touching issues and their romance though inevitable didn't always seem that way. Iris was such a charming addition and so loveable.
Only odd thing is there's no real mention of Reed and Max's parents...
Such a balanced story although the last few chapters guarantees that tissues should be kept handy. Such beautiful chatacters , so easy to fall in love with over and over again!
Brilliantly well written story by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward- and the audio play by Sebastian York and Lynn Barrington is perfection!
