About this listen

After a SWAT team smashed down stock-market millionaire Shaun Attwood's door, he found himself inside of Arizona's deadliest jail and locked into a brutal struggle for survival.

Shaun's hope of living the American Dream turned into a nightmare of violence and chaos, when he had a run-in with Sammy the Bull Gravano, an Italian Mafia mass murderer.

In jail, Shaun was forced to endure cockroaches crawling in his ears at night, dead rats in the food and the sound of skulls getting cracked against toilets. He meticulously documented the conditions and smuggled out his message.

Join Shaun on a harrowing voyage into the darkest recesses of human existence.

Hard Time provides a revealing glimpse into the tragedy, brutality, dark comedy, and eccentricity of prison life.

The story is very good and the writing is surprisingly good. I don’t know if Atwood used a Ghost Writer. The narrator sounds familiar, and his Jamaican accent and female impersonations are unintentionally funny. The narrator did a good job, but I think it would have been better if Attwood narrated the book. It doesn’t sound right to have an American voice reading the book.

"Hard Time" was compelling and gripping first-person account of time spent in the prison system in Phoenix, Arizona. Shaun Attwood has an amazing capacity to paint a picture with words.
This is a very well-written book which really came to life in this audio version.
Highly recommend.

This is a very inspiring true story and not what I was expecting. Yes it has plenty of all the usual stuff that you would expect in any prison biography, but the way he was able to use this experience as a method of spiritual awakening was very unexpected and inspiring. My only criticism isn't about the story but the narrator- he isn't a bad narrator but this story is very much about an English guy in America and the narrator is American and can't or doesn't even attempt to narrate in the right accent. I think like good actors, good narrators need to be able to do a good job of all the accents required for the books they are narrating.

Great inspiring story
