About this listen

One night wasn't enough.

Danny Ip walks into every boardroom with a plan. His plan for struggling tech company WesTec is to acquire it, shut it down, and squeeze the last remaining revenue out of it for his Jade Harbour Capital portfolio. But he didn’t expect his best friend’s younger brother - the hottest one-night stand he ever had - to be there.

Tobin Lok has always thought the world of Danny. He’s funny, warm, attractive - and totally out of Tobin’s league. Now, pitted against Danny at work, Tobin might finally get a chance to prove he’s more than just Wei’s little brother.

It takes a lot to get under Danny’s skin, but Tobin is all grown up in a way Danny can’t ignore. Now, with a promising patent on the line and the stakes higher than ever, all he can think about is getting Tobin back into his bed - and into his life for good.

If only explaining their relationship to Wei could be so easy....

Danny Ip works for a company that buys startups with potential, injects capital and sells them off. He has his eye on WesTec but the corrupt founder has little interest in selling. On a visit to WesTec, Danny encounters Tobin Lok, his best friend’s younger brother and one-time fling. Tobin works for a company that advises other companies on improving their bottom line and he’s always had a big crush on Danny. The two start another fling on the down low but family and corporate issues cause complexities and Danny, who is struggling with burnout, keeps prioritising his work over Tobin. How many chances should Tobin give Danny before he walks away for good?

I loved the premise of two Asian-American MCs who have jobs that put them in competition with each other and jeopardise their chances of happiness together. I thought they had great chemistry but I found Danny’s choices a bit frustrating and I find the corporate world a bit too grubby and greedy in general, particularly here where Danny seems to resort to blackmail at one point. It is a redemption story at heart and I could appreciate Danny’s learning journey even though I didn’t like some moves he made. 🎧 Voice artist Tyler Tetsuda was a perfect choice for these two characters and I loved his narration!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a refreshing change from the normal MM romance stories, as it features two Asian main characters. I love multi-cultural romance, but it was really nice to see a book that featured two handsome Asian men. I felt as though it allowed for more character development and less cultural misunderstandings or unecessary drama.

I also liked that the traditional "Asian" family trope was explored but not overly dramatised. It was far more realistic of a dynamic.

The spice level is quite high, but not cringy or overdone. The spice instead added to the development of the story, rather than appearing as fillers as it does in a lot of MM romances.

The performance was quite well done. Though I didn't like some of the voices the actor used for the side characters, making multiple different voices for many characters is quite challenging. I believe with what the actor was given, they did a great job.

Overall, it was an enjoyable listen and I highly recommend you give it a try.

Emotional and well-written.
