Publisher's Summary

Dear Jackson,

I'm leaving you this note because I know you're very busy, and I don't want to waste the town sheriff's time. Lord knows I've already wasted enough of it.

Thank you for taking me home last night and...everything else. I made you a basket of wild blueberry muffins for your trouble. That seemed like the appropriate baked good for getting naked in your living room.

I wasn't myself last night. I didn't mean to kiss you or fondle your backside or ask all those intimate questions. Thank you for pretending to enjoy it.

It was very noble of you to sleep on the couch while I was starfished on your bed. I couldn't help but notice it's quite large. The bed, that is. I swear, I didn't notice anything else when I let myself out this morning.

As you know, Talbott's Cove is a ridiculously small town, and there's no chance we can avoid each other. Not that I'd want to avoid you, of course, but I'm not sure I can look at you without thinking of the 40 different ways I made a fool of myself.

Instead of avoidance, let's try to be friends. We'll forget all about last night...if that's what you want. Please burn this note after you read it

- Annette

P.S. I whipped up some cinnamon buns, too. Please enjoy them. I'm not sure why, but I couldn't get buns out of my mind today.

Jackson was definitely my fav character

I really enjoyed listening to Hard Pressed - I had already read the ebook, so pre-ordered the audible version once it became available. Both narrator's did a great job, but as Jackson was my fav character I also found his parts of the story more enjoyable.

Hard Pressed is a really sweet and fun read. Poor Annette - she is a little out of sorts at the start of the story after realising that her carefully planned out future with the guy she has been patiently waiting for is DEFINITELY not going to happen. She then finds herself crazy attracted to Jackson, but doubts herself after getting it so wrong before.

Jackson - he is my favourite character in this book. He is so patient with Annette, and is willing to wait for her to realise that what they have together could be amazing. I love Brooke, Annette's bestie. I've only recently started reading/listening to this author's books, so I'm hoping that if Brooke doesn't have a book yet......I need to investigate this :) ........then one is planned for the future.

Another amazing audio from Kate!

Kate is one of my favorite authors who could write just about anything and I'd pick it up and love it. I love her book on audio as they come to life so well. Her writing allows you to emerge yourself into the story and feel like you're in it along with the characters! The narrators did a fantastic job bringing her characters to life in this book!

Nice story about a woman gaining confidence

Overall I liked this story. The baking definitions at the beginning of each chapter didn’t make a lot of sense to me, but they didn’t take away from the overall story. I thought the town where the story was set seemed lovely and it was easy to picture it in my minds eye.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the male narrator’s voice, but got used to it over time.

Lord, YES!!!! Absolutely loved this story so very much. The narrators brought it to life, particularly the steamy parts!! This book is so very good and getting to listen to it was like music to my ears.

Generic. Boring. Just Not Good.

I couldn't even finish this one. It's not because it's terrible or because I hate it. It's just not good.

There is very little emphasis actual relationship building and much more emphasis on the hook ups, which is fine, but the hook ups really aren't that hot.

The sad thing is, I think there could've been a decent comedy aspect, but the narrators didn't have comedic timing/inflection for parts that I think were meant to be funny. The best friend character is funny, and honestly the most entertaining part of the book, but she's not in much of the book.

I just got bored and didn't want to listen to more of the book. Which I don't think has ever happened before.

the new sheriff in town

Sheriff Jackson Lau is new to the seaside town of Talbot Cove...and he's hot for the bookstore owner, Annette, but afraid to make a move. Imagine his surprise when he responds to the local bar to remove an intoxicated person and it's Annette!
Annette has just discovered that the man she thought was The One, is actually gay and proceeds to drown her sorrow at the bar. She should be mortified that the new sheriff has to take her to his home to sleep it off, but instead she strips and kisses the life out of him. She IS mortified the next morning and races out the door leaving a brief thank you note. Annette decides to take some baked goods to the sheriff, and so begins a relationship of two very different people. Annette is an introvert...there is a huge age gap between herself and sisters, and she is always judged by her family. She is also very unsure of herself. Will she trust that Jackson truly cares for her and have a happily ever after?
Overall the story was good. The female narrator was great but I did find that the male narrator was a bit bland...still a good book.

Sweet meet swoon & gruff!

Never met a Kate Canterbary’s book I don’t enjoy. The narrators really brought Annette and Jackson to life. Annette is sweet and unsure of herself and Jackson is quiet and confident and a gentlemen. Also love how she did the hilarious text stream between Brook and Annette. Such a joy to listen to another story set in Talbot Cove. I would definitely recommend anyone who loves a deliciously written book narrated.
