About this listen

Widower and rancher Ranson Nye stopped in Temptation, a "wide open" town on the Texas side of the Red River. He was headed to the Oklahoma Indian Territory to find a new wife and mother for his two children. Inside The Red Slipper saloon, he meets a young widow beginning her first day as a prostitute. On the spur of the moment, he asked Genoveve Van Dorn to be his wife with no intimacy involved. In desperation, she accepts his offer to keep from actually becoming a prostitute. However, within moments, there is a shooting in the saloon, and three men are killed — one of them the Town Marshal. Ranson proves himself able to handle the situation. The town's mayor offers the job of Town Marshal to Ransom. He takes the job, and Genoveve agrees to be the wife of a lawman instead of that of a rancher. Ranson has to fight gunfighters and prepare for the hanging of the saloon killer. He and Genoveve have to learn how to be a married couple with the limits they agreed to while not really knowing each other.
