Some interesting things

Very interesting although the formatting is probably far better suited for reading vs listening, particularly in large chunks as I did on a road trip. Somewhat repeatative at times and a little dry/boring. Super insightful, engaging and packed with handy information at others. Worth it.

Great introduction to ultra running

I’ve run half a dozen ultramarathons and what this book reminded me was that a review of the basics is extremely valuable. To be clear, this book covers more than the basics, but that’s what hit home for me.

No nonsense guide

No stories about how great he is, just the author giving very practical, easy to follow advice on ultra running. Exactly what I was looking for.

Easy to listen to with great advice. The tips and training plan were worth the price, the story is icing on the cake though.

Obviuos information

Too much obvious content like: at night is getting colder, stay hydrated, watch out for the roots and plenty like this.
Almost no information about the training routine.
This book is for someone who has never ran, and want to do ultra straight from the coach. If you are familiar with the basics and know how to use the internet, skip this book.

Very Informative

This was a very interesting listen, if you are looking at your first ultra. I found the no messing, step by step approach really helpful, especially when you consider the experience of the author. I loved the way Hal made reference to other race distance training, this helped me to mentally prepare for the challenges and solitude of an ultra, when compared with more populated or track based races.

set up me up well for success

Really enjoyed this was a good pace not to full on for me as I'm about to take part in my first Ultra! it's set a few things straight in my head and confirmed a few things I was on the fence about. Got some great things to try on my practice runs now.

Interesting and thorough

Really enjoyed this while running, Hal is clearly well placed to have written this field guide.
