Bogen efterfølges af "Den brændende busk", der følger Paul Selmers videre liv. Bøgerne kan både læses i forlængelse af hinanden og hver for sig. Sigrid Undset (1882-1949) blev født i Kalundborg og opvoksede i Norge. Hun skrev en lang række populære og anmelderroste romaner og modtog nobelprisen i litteratur i 1928.
