Publisher's Summary

Can a good company become a great one? If so, how?

After a five-year research project, Jim Collins concludes that good to great can and does happen. In this book, he uncovers the underlying variables that enable any type of organisation to make the leap from good to great while other organisations remain only good. Rigorously supported by evidence, his findings are surprising - at times even shocking - to the modern mind.

Good to Great achieves a rare distinction: a management book full of vital ideas that reads as well as a fast-paced novel. It is widely regarded as one of the most important business books ever written.

Dated, questionable conclusion

The research method used in this book is questionable.

The population is merely 20+ companies, in different industries. There is no causal link established between the level 5 leadership and success of these companies. This book feels more like a bag of pithy phrases rather than something can be qualified as research and drive meaningful result in real life.

I won't recommend this book.

what every entrepreneur needs to listen to

this book give really good insight to companies that found that right formula for success, it also gives you the time when listening to it to reflect on your own behaviours and see if you truly can be a level 5

Great means having no life, yeah pass

Why would anyone ever want to lead a company into greatness if what it takes essentially disconnects you from any resemblance of personal characteristics that resonates with family and friends - you must become obsessed with your company and pour your entire soul into it beyond imagining to get to great. Yeah that's a hard pass thanks. what's the point of this book? If you're already the 'gteat' leader you wouldn't be able to listen to audiobooks or it conflicts with the idea's presented - and if you're not a great leader yet and listening to it then you'll clearly (if you're human) steer clear of this advice. So this is not really and advice (self-help) book, is it a report of some kind then? It could be a book to present the findings of the research, which would normally be a research paper and peer reviewed data and research - not a book. If that was the intention of this book, why did it never actually come out and declare anything remotely related to the scientific methodology, null hypothesis, tests to prove or disprove theory, etc...? Oh that's right, this was always a self help book - and it failed to be that, miserably failed

A good listen during commute

A simplified approach to building great companies. From being a level 5 leaders to creating a discipline to go through the pain to build a moment of change that drives revolutionary outcomes .

Glad I read it

A great book to get you in the groove of good management. I learned a lot. And a lot of what he says agrees with Plato - eg stick to what you know, be disciplined, stay on track. Good read.

Great book engaging listen

Listened to the audio book, interesting content and concepts that apply today as they did nearly 20 years ago when the book was written. Fascinating that all the changes in the globalisation of companies, workforces and different ways of working with all the WFH and technology we have, a lot of what he talks about is still very relevant.
