Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media. But all these share the trait for which she is most famous: unabashedly and unapologetically being herself. This commitment to authenticity has never been more on display than in Down the Drain. Fox recounts her turbulent path to cultural supremacy.

Delightful book
- By Arathaw on 11-05-2022
Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
From the bestselling author of Ghosts and Everything I Know About Love: a sharply funny, beautifully observed and exquisitely relatable story of heartbreak and friendship, and how to survive both.
Andy loves Jen. Jen loved Andy.
And he can't work out why she stopped.
Now he is. . .
1. Without a home
2. Waiting for his stand-up career to take off
3. Wondering why everyone else around him seems to have grown up while he wasn't looking
Set adrift on the sea of heartbreak at a time when everything he thought he knew about women, and flat-sharing, and his friendships has transformed beyond recognition, Andy clings to the idea of solving the puzzle of their broken relationship. Because if he can find the answer to that, then maybe Jen can find her way back to him.
Andy still has a lot to learn, not least his ex-girlfriend's side of the story.

The performance is amazing
Aldertons new book is told predominantly from the male perspective, which is an interesting contrast to her previous two books which centre entirely around women. I loved the parallels drawn in this book between the different gendered perspectives of heartbreak and the breakdown of an adult relationship.

Stick with it to the end!
Written beautifully and a bold choice to write mostly from the man’s perspective in a breakup and to see the other side which was expertly executed. I got a little bit lost around the middle delving into someone’s heartbreak but Dolly Alderton brings it back so worth sticking it out to the end!

First and last Dolly Alderton book
This book looked great from the blurb, but the content is so so. I thought it would be a two sided demise of a relationship but really it’s about him figuring out what happened something I had absolutely no interest in. She comes in at the end to add her two cents but as she’s been the back ground for most of the book I didn’t care what she had to say. Not a fan

Amazingly relatable
I love the way Dolly writes. It's so honest, and authentic without feeling like it was from her voice, I completely bought into the characters and their journey.
I think that 'break up stories' can be vacuous and self indulgent, but this story felt familiar and identifiable.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

Great Narration, love Dollys work
Ahhh, firstly I really enjoyed the narration, it was soothing and like being read a bedtime story - very well done.
Secondly, I enjoyed the topic of heartbreak, it's so confusing; what's right, when it's wrong, how to know etc. but I felt like this book does some good work in covering this and the obsessive feelings people have when they like someone but can't have them.
As a 31 year old female I feel I'm on the brink of all friends having children which is a terrifying feeling of feeling rushed to make decisions and not wanting to feel left out.
I'd recommend. Good work Dolly 👍

Really beautifully captured the delicate nuances of humans intertwining themselves with each other in romantic and platonic relationships. An age old theme, explored in a modern, funny, light and yet utterly heartbreaking way.
