As he rose in power, though, Goering became disillusioned and was eventually shunned from Hitler's inner circle. Alone at the end, he faced justice at the Nuremberg trials and was convicted of war crimes and crime against humanity. He committed suicide in prison before he could be hanged. In this book, Manvell and Fraenkel bring to life one of history's most complicated and hated characters.

Excellent insight into the life and times of Hermann Goering. Before listening to this book I knew very little about the man and his role within the Nazi Party.

the overall story seemed balanced and sought to explain how Goering could be part of the murderous fourth Reich, when also loving art and being a good father. Evil comes in many forms

Very well researched and presented this book gets details, big and small, correct and is very informative of all in the highest echelons on the third reich.

This excellent study of Goering’s life and career as a rising leader in Nazi Germany is marred by the rapid-fire way it is read. The reader doesn’t seem to realise that frequent pauses are necessary to allow the listener to reflect on what has been said before moving to another topic or aspect. This detracts from what is actually a very well researched and well written book.
