Beautiful narration of a classic
Like many urban Indians who speak Hindi but do not read much of it, I am literate in Hindi but read mostly English. During this pandemic I diversified my reading and realised I had never read any novel in an Indian language. I had read English translations of several but I felt the need to read one in one of the Indian languages. I tried a few in different languages but I didn’t enjoy the reading part so I tried to look for titles on Audible and found this narration of Premchand’s acclaimed classic. From the very first line, Sameer Goswami’s voice carries you deep into Premchand’s world. The novel itself needs no review or summary. It is a classic after all but 5 stars to Sameer Goswami’s narration. I listened at 0.8x speed as the Hindi was a bit different from the modern conversational Hindi that I am used to.
Goswami’s voice brings to life Premchand’s detailed world-building and incisive dialogue with such authenticity that you wish for the tale to continue forever. A wonderful experience.
