Story
God Has a Name is a simple yet profound guide to understanding God in a new light - focusing on what God says about himself. In God Has a Name, John Mark Comer takes you line by line through Exodus 34:6-8 - Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai, one of the most quoted passages in the Bible.

Story
During our chaotic times, discover five forgotten values that can spark internal growth and help us reconcile our Christian faith with the complexities of race, sexuality, and social justice. Most believers live in the state of "being a Christian" without ever being deeply formed by Christ. Our pace is too frenetic to be in union with God, and we don't know how to quiet our hearts and minds to be present. Our emotions are unhealthy and compartmentalized.

Story
We live in a time when our culture is becoming increasingly shallow, coarse, and empty. Radical shifts in the areas of sexuality, ethics, technology, secular ideologies, and religion have caused the once-familiar landscape of a generation ago to be virtually unrecognizable. Yet rather than shine as a beacon of light, the church often is silent or accommodating. This isn’t a new phenomenon. During World War II, pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was deeply troubled by the compromise in the German church.

Publisher's Summary
An honest, soul-searching pursuit of biblical answers to one of Christianity's most challenging questions: What do you do when God meets your prayers with silence?
Many of us have struggled with prayers that seem to go unanswered, and Pete Greig has been down that difficult road of doubt. This book is both intensely personal and deeply theological - a book born out of his wife Sammy's fight for her life after a horrifying diagnosis.
The acclaimed author of Red Moon Rising wrestles with the hard side of prayer, how to respond when there seem to be no answers, and how to cope with those who seek to interpret our experience for us.
For those struggling with prayer, God on Mute brings a message of hope and comfort, but also a better understanding of how we communicate with our Creator. Using the timeline of Holy Week (from Maundy Thursday through Easter Sunday) as a template, Greig explores four main questions about prayer from all angles:
- How am I going to get through this?
- Why aren't my prayers being answered?
- Where is God when he seems silent?
- When every prayer is answered...what does that mean?
Silence in response to our most heart-felt prayers is the hardest thing for a person of faith to wrestle with. The world collapses. Then all goes quiet. Words can't explain what we're going through. People avoid you and don't know what to say. So you turn to Him and you pray. You need Him more than ever before. But somehow even God Himself seems on mute. And this sinks into us with a sense of futility....
But even in this crushing silence, there is a way forward. Here is a story of faith, hope, and love beyond all understanding.

Such a needed book
As always Pete writes with gut-wrenching honesty and transparency. No “flannel” in this book. Extensive and valuable understanding born of personal pain. This book has all the wit, poignancy and depth that anyone could ever want, when wrestling with the issue of “where is God when it HURTS?” - leading us back to a far more profound, far deeper faith because it’s been for wd through the crucible of the refiner’s fire. So worth the read. Absolutely stunning

Resilience to God’s glory
Pete speaks the truths that underpin the life story of every follower of Jesus. So different to what our world suggests our calling is to rest in the faithfulness of Christ’s words. Our joy filled resilience is in Him and brings God glory on choice at a time.

I stretched this experience out as far as I could! Listening for 20mins each day, I would stop just before I reached home and pray on the material and ideas presented by Grieg. This is good life changing, challenging stuff and I look forward to exploring it in a church book group.
