The story itself is great, but the narration... is absolutely horrid. I am convinced it is AI read. The flat monotonic sound made it nearly unbearable. After reading the first lot of Lily Rock books, or listening I should say, I thought, yippee! very sad that the reading was soooo bad and robotic. Especially the character Kiane, horrendous.

While I will listen to the next book to give the series a proper go (and because it’s in the + catalogue so is an included subscription listen), I found this book to be meh. I think what annoyed me most of all was the head talk of the main protagonist; it’s very painful. I also struggled with the multiple plots, thought Olivia was a bit of an ingenuine ingrate, and the different character voices grated. It does have the feel on an AI narration.

I’m in agreement with other reviewers. I couldn’t engage with any of the characters. I attempted to improve the narration by adjusting the speed to no avail. The plot was completely lost as I just couldn’t get hooked into the book to judge if it was good or not.

Wooden. Couldn’t hook me.

I really hope there are more books to come, the characters and the way the story is woven is right on.
