Brilliant

Once again Jodi Ellen Malpas has written a truly brilliant story. It's intriguing, it has twists and turns, multi faceted characters and to top it off it's a love story.

Ugh! My first and last book by this author.

This was a complete disappointment. Let me list the reasons why.

1) There are mistakes in the narration, here are just a few examples...
- narrator refers to Theo as "Leo"
- at the end of chapter 3 she says "my friend gives me an understanding smile,  curling my arm around my shoulder and pulling me into her..."
- chapter 8, "when I'm free I sit up, bringing my knees to his chin", should read "my chin"

2) There are also some painfully overused words and phrases.
- referring to Theo's "cobalt eyes" at least once every chapter, sometimes twice. Gets tiresome.
- "...the hardness that cuts his handsome face, making him even more handsome, he's so damn handsome..."

3) I simply cannot reconcile the notion that a woman who has suffered and escaped abuse - is supposedly "done with being vulnerable" - would willingly allow herself to be tied up and by a virtual stranger against her will (because she asks him multiple times to untie her), halfway ****ed by him, and does not lose her temper when he leaves her naked and bound to the bed for a long enough period of time that she gets tired and starts to fall asleep. And even after they've done it, he still refuses to untie her. I'm sorry, but that's not hot. It's controlling and disturbing.

4) The fact that Theo follows her to Vegas after two brief encounters from their initial meeting,  when he kicks her out of his car, and gets creepy weird about dinner, only makes him a stalker. And when he shows up poolside and tells her to cover up... and she does, is simply inconceivable and frankly outrageous.

5) The way her brain cells spontaneously vanish when Theo is near and she loses the ability to speak, walk, breathe, make decisions and be assertive or normal in any way whatsoever make me disdainful of Izzy's character. The way she becomes so enamoured by such a bossy and controlling tool beggars belief.

6) If you wanted to hear Jack George's narration,  skip straight to the epilogue.  That's all you'll get.

I found the story irritating, the plot lazy, the main characters loathsome and the narration sloppy.
I couldn't drag myself through the whole book and called it quits at chapter 10.
