About this listen
“I used to be a lesbian.”
In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?
At age 19, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward him right in her own bedroom in light of his gospel.
Listen in order to understand. Listen in order to hope. Or listen in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

A must read/listen to anyone who is seeking to make real their faith!
Pretty incredible performance as well. I really enjoyed listening. I typically listen at 1.5x, but I slowed down, not because Jackie speaks fast but to allow it to really sink deep. Highly recommended.
A must for those seeking to make real their faith!

Jackie's testimony is powerful. It's a story marked by both hurt and, even more so, by hope. Her understanding of the Lord, and the role of Christ and the gospel in her life and experiences, is both beautiful and deeply inspiring.
The message she shares is strong and challenging. I found myself frequently pausing the audiobook just to take a breath, and often scribbling in the margins of my physical copy to capture the many "oof" and "woah" moments her words stirred in me.
Jackie is incredibly well-spoken and clearly well-read, and because of that, her story is all the more compelling. It was genuinely well received by me.
I believe this book is profoundly important, not just for LGBTQIA+ Christians, whether they are open about their experiences or not, but also for straight Christians who want to better understand the complexities, challenges, and deep faith it takes to navigate identity and belief. It invites empathy, reflection, and above all, a deeper grasp of grace.
Phenomenal book
