Story
When it comes to finding dirt, Evan Reed is the best in the business. She’s a “dust-buster” - a paid operative hired by political campaigns to vet candidates for national office. She’s also a foulmouthed and cranky ex-Catholic - attempting to raise a 14-year-old daughter on her own. When she is hired to investigate the background of a squeaky-clean and charismatic junior senator who might just be the next president, the last thing she expects to uncover is a murder.

Story
Twenty-three years ago, a young girl went missing. Two days later her body was found lodged beneath the footbridge over Boulder Creek. The murder shook the town but they soon found it was only the beginning. A serial killer hides among them - a serial killer who strikes twice, sometimes three times a year. Mason Cooper couldn’t wait to leave Gillette Park. At 18, she headed off to college and the bright lights of Los Angeles, thinking she'd never return home to the broken family and forgotten friendships she'd left behind.

Story
Investigative reporter Marty Edwards has found her niche: cold cases. She loves poring over old notes, hunting down long-forgotten witnesses, and digging down through the layers of an unsolved murder case. But this time, Marty is digging where someone obviously doesn't want her. And that someone might also include the Brownsville Police Department. Why else would they assign Detective Kristen Bailey to baby-sit her? Barely surviving two attempts on her life, Marty abandons Brownsville and the case. Danger follows her as the case turns red-hot.

Publisher's Summary
Tim Donovan is a Catholic priest with a guilty conscience - though not in the way you’d guess. And Katherine Donne is a Parisian socialite who long ago kicked her self-respect to the curb - for good and for ill. And much closer, we have a group of men whose fortunes, graying temples, and positions in life are distinguished and enviable. But their morals? Anything but. And that’s where Evan Reed comes in. Evan (short for Evangeline) is a highly principled political operative with an imperfect past, tasked with uncovering compromising material on a rotten judge up for nomination to the US Supreme Court before he can be rushed through confirmation.
Evan knows it won't be simple to find damaging information against the judge because he's been vetted many times before. When Evan pulls the string after an interview with a cryptic madman, she finds herself struggling to solve a puzzle that gets more complex by the hour. And where crime, money, conscience, and greed come together, danger is sure to lurk. In this sequel to Dust, Ann McMan takes the listener on an intense journey into a world that lies just beneath the thin veneer of civilization - a world teeming with power struggles and warped desires, and a subculture of promises made, kept, and broken.
As Evan pushes further into peril, her personal life sparks into flame with the increasing presence of the ravishing Julia Donne, a book publisher with a progressive bent and troubling questions about her late father. McMan’s specialty of intertwining a hot romance into heart-pounding suspense just keeps getting better and better.

Ann McMan scores a 10!
This book continues the story of Evan and Julia. The As Evan investigates a prospective Supreme Court nominee the information she uncovers effects Julia’s life. It gives a more in depth look at Julia and Evan’s relationship. Stevie and Father Tim add just the right amount of humor and distraction! Of course, Christine Williams does a fantastic job with not only the laugh out loud moments but the serious ones too. Thanks for the excellent story and narration!

Excellent!
I loved Galileo. So nice to spend time with Evan and Julia in Chadds Ford, PA. and everywhere else their adventures take them. The topics covered in the book and uncovered by Evan are so relevant. Loved the suspense and the romance. I'm ready for book three. Christine Williams does an excellent job with the narration.

Chiaroscuro
Ann McMan once again managing to shine some light into dark situations. Writing dark material is hard to balance and make the reader able to stay with you during horrific happenings (particularly when these occur in real life). McMan still manages to sacrifice none of the truth of a difficult topics of our reality as well as showing us that darkness is not all that there is. By including warm scenes of Evan and Julia’s patchwork blended family life she shows us that there is still light and hope in the dark moments of our culture.
