Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Sylvain Reynard returns with the fourth installment of the beloved Gabriel's Inferno series.

When Gabriel and Julia Emerson first lay eyes on their newborn daughter, Clare, they realize life as they know it will never be the same. Gabriel has vowed to be a good father when he suddenly receives an invitation to give a series of lectures in Edinburgh, Scotland - an opportunity of high prestige - but that would mean leaving his wife and child in Boston. Hesitant to bring it up, he keeps the opportunity from Julia as long as he can, not knowing she has a secret of her own.

When a frightening situation arises that threatens their new family, both parents must make sacrifices. With the family in danger, the looming question remains: Will Gabriel pursue his lectureship in Edinburgh, leaving Julia and Clare vulnerable in Boston, or will he abandon the chance of a lifetime in order to ensure his family's safety?

Love Book 4... EXCEPT for new unanswered questions

I have to start with praise for Robertson Dean. After the sad loss of John Morgan, I wasn't sure that there would be another narrator who could properly capture the snobbery and snark that is Professor Emerson. This is my first narration by Robertson Dean, and I all I can say is very well done, sir! His narration was excellent, and his interpretation of Professor Emerson, Julia and all the other characters we know and love was both excellent and true to the first 3 books. I cannot recommend the narration more.

My issue is with the story. While I was very happy that Sylvain Reynard wrote this 4th book, I had been content with the completion of the trilogy. I felt all the characters' story arcs had completed quite satisfactorily. What this book did was provide me a lovely look into what happened next with the Emersons, but it also left me with quite the list of unanswered questions. Who is the new nemesis? The version of Paul who could be untrue is also disheartening. What happens there? I know that these books have been options to Passionflix for movies. Are the unanswered questions purposeful in order to create a need for more books to require more movies?

Do I recommend this book? Yes. Is it worth the credit? Yes. But go into it forewarned that you will not close the cover with a contented feeling of closure. I would not go as far as to say that there is a cliffhanger, but I would say it feels as though there is a missing chapter or two. Be on the look out for Gabriel 5.

Felt unfinished and just unnecessary

The book was such a disappointment. First of all, this book feels extremely incomplete. The author leaves so many storylines unaddressed and unanswered that it's beyond frustrating. Not to mention, the ending is very uneventful. I didn't even know I had reached the end of the book until I heard the credits start to play. I honestly thought I had just reached the end of a chapter-- that's how lame it was. It felt like I was missing another 2-3 hours of the book since so many storylines were never addressed. To put it in perspective, the first audiobook in this series was about 20 hours long, while this book is only about 9 hours long. It felt like the author wrote 2/3's of the book and then just stopped. As another reviewer mentioned, "the author took readers down several possible storylines that just dropped." I couldn't agree with that reviewer more! In addition, this book had way too much Dante in it! Unlike the other books in this series that had a good, but not over the top, amount of Dante in it, this book has way too much. I felt like I had to constantly skip over long speeches of someone quoting Dante for minutes on end. More than anything, however, I just don't see why this book had to be made. To me, the third book was a great place to stop and all of the characters had satisfactory endings. That's all thrown away by this book, however, due to the fact that the book feels unfinished. I don't understand why the author bothered to introduce new situations for the characters to go through if most of them are never resolved. I am hoping that the author is planning on writing the fifth book simply to give the characters a proper ending. If not, however, I think it's best if readers just stop after the third book and skip this one entirely.

I miss the narrator from the first 3 books.

The story is pretty good, not as deep at the first books in the series. But I just cannot get behind this narration. His voice is too deep and ragged for my taste! just my opinion though!

Disappointed

I loved the first three books in Gabriel story and super excited to see Gabriel's Promise. The story was rushed and left unanswered questions. Hate I wasted a credit on this book. Unless Mr. Reynard is planning another installment this book was a wasted read.

Ridiculously Underdeveloped Story

This story was unbelievably underdeveloped with a ridiculously boring ending. The author took readers down several possible story lines that just dropped as a result it was a waste of my precious time. What about the discarded art piece, who left it, why was it left, why did the break in happen? What now? What about Julia’s health, will she heal, how does it impact their lives? What about Paul? What about Rachel’s need for a child? What happened to Maria? What about Julia’s carer? I enjoyed the original series but this book was a huge let down. Please do not waste your time reading it, it’s time you can never get back.

it was ok.

didnt like the reader in this one. I know the original voice passed away but this voice was to raspy and I didnt like the voices he used for the other characters especially the women.

the story itself was ok. I felt like I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing did. it sounds like there will be another book. it was enjoyable but it could have been better. alot of unanswered questions with all the characters involved in this series..

Ugh

I love love love this series! However this book was not the same as the others, the passion was not the same, and Julia acting dumb and keeping her issues hidden from her husband made my skin crawl!!!! I wanted to strangle her! The book left a lot unexplained and open ended with no reassurance that there would be more to come however I have a strange feeling that is because the storyline does continue in The Raven but since I have not read it yet I can’t say for sure so all in all I loved the book only because I absolutely love Gabriel! ♥️♥️

SPECTACULAR NOVEL 💯x9 ✍👏🤗🌟

It's been a Spectacular journey reading your novels 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Gabriel's Promise is not what I thought it would be. It was Fantastic!!!! 🤗🌟♥️✍ I Enjoyed listening to your wonderful novel. I must say that I wasn't sure what was going to happen in the end. There were lots of twist and turns. I also feel that your stories are not over. It seems that your novels intertwine with each other. Maybe the stories will continue... Best Wishes to you🌟 ✍📚🌹👍😊👏🎥

Superb addition to The Gabriel Series!!!!

Gabriel is a new man. Beautiful story SR, Gabriel has embraced fatherhood. Juileanne has become even more fierce as a women, mother and student. The reaction to Flamingoes made me laugh out loud. I do hope we see the Emerson's again. A wonderful addition to this superb and outstanding book series.
