Promising but let down by derivative plot & people

Overall I found the story to be a somewhat disjointed amalgam of "Alien(s)" and "Rendezvous with Rama". The space based sections were light on exposition with most characters remarkably incurious or just plain ambivalent. The Earth based storyline was a jarring contrast to events on the ship, and I felt no engagement with the protagonist in his 'quest'.
The performance and characterisation from the narrator was simply brilliant, elevating this audiobook above its 'text only' worth.

Regret.
Ray porter is Ray porter as usual, really carries the experience honestly.
if not for him the sudden turn the story takes from mystery and vulnerability to super humans overcoming all their hurdles and just happen to survive every encounter with ease mixed with this feeling everything is just rushed just ruins it.
Really good first 40% but everything after is just meh..
