About this listen

DS Nick Chester returns with a new case that will test his limits.

The tiny South Island town of Franz Josef is perched precariously on New Zealand’s Alpine Fault. It already faces devastating earthquakes, floods and landslides. And now it harbours a killer.

When a body is discovered suspended in a glacier, detectives Nick Chester and Latifa Rapata are sent to investigate. More victims surface, as does a web of corruption stretching from the international aid industry to the blood-steeped fields of a civil war.

From the award-winning author of Marlborough Man and Doom Creek, this atmospheric thriller plunges listeners into a blood-soaked crevasse of natural disasters, international intrigue and calculated murder.

This is the third book in the thrilling Nick Chester series by award-winning author Alan Carter.

‘Franz Josef is trademark Alan Carter: appealing characters, convincing police work and bursts of action, with an overlay of international tensions ripped from the headlines.’ GARRY DISHER

Loved the twisty turny storyline and great descriptions of the land and weather which is so accurate. Horrific events but tempered with the personalities of the lead detective team so well. Brilliant narration.

Fantastic again

Once again Alan has weaved a great story for Nick Chester to fumble about in, and captures the beauty and ruggedness of Aotearoa and its people. Powerful and relevant themes run deep through the book, like the very fault Fran Josef is built on. Jerome nails the narration, again.

Brilliantly woven mystery.
