One of the Best

I've always loved this book and was pleased to find it on audio, Judy Bennett gives a whole new dimension to the story.
Frankie's seventeenth birthday starts out poorly with her husband away on a course and her presents being all items for the flat... except for her sister Sonia's offering of a white ostrich feather. An unexpected gift and offer from her sister-in-law, Bridget, sends Frankie and Sonia off on an adventure during which the eponymous hat is acquired and decorated. Seeing Frankie morph from wife-and-mother to kid and back again when her husband returns is great fun. The other two stories are equally wry and clear-eyed as Yoyo discovers her boyfriend is really just a big kid and would rather play with her brother and Ronda plays a mean but rather satisfying trick on her mum's kind but thoughtless employer...
