Publisher's Summary
From the celebrated imagination of Dean Koontz comes a powerful reworking of one of the classic stories of all time. If you think you know the legend, you know only half the truth. Here is the mystery, the myth, the terror, and the magic of...
Every city has its secrets. But none as terrible as this. He is Deucalion, a tattooed man of mysterious origin, a sleight-of-reality artist who has traveled the centuries with a secret worse than death. He arrives in New Orleans as a serial killer stalks the streets, a killer who carefully selects his victims for the humanity that is missing in himself. Deucalion's path will lead him to cool, tough police detective Carson O'Connor and her devoted partner, Michael Maddison, who are tracking the slayer but will soon discover signs of something far more terrifying: an entire race of killers who are much more - and less - than human and, deadliest of all, their deranged, near-immortal maker: Victor Helios - once known as Frankenstein.

A modern masterpiece
"Frankenstein: Prodigal Son", a true modern masterpiece of by one of the preeminent masters of suspense, a must-read for anyone with an interest in this genre. The narrative is, frankly, beautifully crafted. Detailed, descriptive, completely engaging, it grabs onto your psyche and never lets go. The most logical and frightening continuation of Mary Shelley's classic, it totally engages the reader on a visceral level. I think Mrs. Shelley would be proud.
Christopher Lane's narration of this modern classic is very near to perfection. Smooth and erudite, almost hypnotic, he has absolutely captured the spirit of the work. Listening to his reading is an undeniable pleasure. Even more impressive than his general narration is that he has almost perfectly captured the myriad accents and dialects found in the region of southeastern Louisiana, particularly in New Orleans itself. It is difficult enough for non-natives to reproduce even one of these regional dialects; very few in the entertainment industry accomplish even that. For Mr. Lane to have mastered several of these speaks to a remarkable talent. Do not bypass this novel, this series. Reading Dean Koontz's "Frankenstein" is a singular experience. Hearing it performed is a sensory delight.

I really enjoyed this book.
Even though the Frankenstein story isn't new, I found this story to be very original. And I enjoyed it tremendously. Not only is it a new take on an old story, but i liked the characters. On one hand you have the sexy, tough as nails, bad ass chick detective, and on the other hand her hot, wise cracking partner that are in love with each other. Even though this book is in no way a romance, there is some tension because there can never be anything between them. Police rules, they couldn't only no longer be partner, but couldn't even be in the same department.
I'm looking forward to this growing into a series.

Great Series
When I first saw this I thought, wow another Frankenstein story. But since I really enjoy Dean Knoontz I would give it a try. I was hooked by the second chapter. I am so glad I did. This whole series is wonderful, it makes "the Monster" so likeable then actually loveable. The audible books are just great. The voice is spellbinding and kept me interested from start to finish. It is well written and well read. I recommend this to everyone.

Nothing pisses me off more than a book without an ending!
The story was interesting enough, if you are not too much of a stickler for believability. But it ends abruptly and without resolution of any of the major plot lines. Even knowing that a book is the first in a series, I still expect it to be a self contained story with a reasonable conclusion of the majority of the threads woven throughout the story. I have no problem with a few open ends and segues leading to sequels. But this is literally like someone ripped the last three chapters off the end of the book and threw them away and published what was left. Sorry Mr Koontz, but I won’t be spending any more time with this series.

Book isn't sure if it's supposed to be a fantasy o
This was the first book by Dean Koontz that I have read. It was okay but not great. Not enough fantasy to help this listener enjoy the book, but moved too slowly for a mystery. I suspect there is a sequel but I'm not going to rush any time soon to get the sequel.

Koontz at his best
Dark and menacing tale of a man’s endeavours to replace the human race with his own creations and their struggles to discover their difference from humans. The cold calculating Victor is a great villain.
This story is lightened by the banter between the two cops, Carson and Michael, and I actually laughed out loud. It seems a lot funnier than the book because of the great narration.

I bought the first three in the Frankenstein series and after trying and finishing the first I'll not bother with the others.
Maybe it's me, I just want a ripping story with excitement or simply a good storyline or characters, nothing in this one comes close. Maybe it's the start (slow) start to a spellbinding series?
