Publisher's Summary

When Atlanta housewife Abigail Campano comes home unexpectedly one afternoon, she walks into a nightmare. A broken window, a bloody footprint on the stairs, and, most devastating of all, the horrifying sight of her teenage daughter lying dead on the landing, a man standing over her with a bloody knife. The struggle that follows changes Abigail's life forever.

When the local police make a misjudgement that not only threatens the investigation but places a young girl's life in danger, the case is handed over to Special Agent Will Trent of the Criminal Apprehension Team. He's teamed with detective Faith Mitchell, a woman who resents him from their first meeting.

But in the relentless heat of a Georgia summer, Will and Faith realise that they must work together to find the brutal killer who has targeted one of Atlanta's wealthiest, most privileged communities - before it's too late.

Disagree with performer comments.

Several readers commented on the performance - one even said lack lustre. I have to disagree - I thought the reader, Phil Gigante, was a genius when it came to the voices for characters. Every character was different and I have to admit I thought there were several different readers at first. When listening to a story, we don't need over-dramatization but to be able to distinguish the voices of different characters is a necessity.
Too many audio stories have a very strong accent (especially, dare I say, American drawl) that it was a pleasure to hear neutrality - well done Phil Gigante.

Great story, terrible reading.

I really enjoy these books but this is the worst reader I've heard. His female voices ruined this for me. Awful.

Good story, kept me interested

This is overall a good story that kept me interested. Karin Slaughter is usually a good read and this is pretty standard. Good also if you've read Tryptic first to know the characters, but not essential. A solid performance as well, easy to listen to.

Wish I'd realised it was abridged

I really enjoyed the storyline, but only realised upon beginning the book that it was the abridged version. It felt a bit rushed, and like certain key parts were glossed over or thrown in quickly. Still, I did enjoy the story and would read more from this author/series.

Good story, well delivered

Enjoyed this 2nd book even though it was abridged. New interesting characters brought in and learned more about the lovely insecure Will Trent. The readers were just great, loved the little nuances of voices sounding tinny on the phone etc. Can highly recommend.

Fractured

Didn't fit this as entertaining or gripping as her other books - it was an average read.
