Erindringsværk fra forfatterinden Else Moltkes pen om barndomshjemmet på Conradineslyst og Nørager og om det herregårdsmiljø, hun voksede op i. Moltke går dog også endnu længere tilbage i tiden og fortæller om adels- og herskabslivet i årene mellem 1807-1896.
Men i centrum af det hele er mødet med maleren Harald Moltke og det ægteskab, som blomstrede ud af mødet. Else Moltke (1888-1986), dansk forfatter. Else Moltke engagerede sig i kvinders vilkår og var sammen med forfatterkollegaen Thit Jensen med til at etablere Københavns kvindelige diskussionsklub i 1941. I sit forfattervirke var Moltke inspireret af det adelige ungdomsmiljø, som hun selv voksede op i, og Moltkeslægtens historiske betydning.
