Publisher's Summary

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

good but could be better

look, i absolutely loved this because you get more background sounds than the normal version. but the way violet pronounces some things is very confusing.
i was reading along of my favourite parts of the book with this a few minutes ago, there were several lines that were different to my book. which that is very annoying.
i feel like the narrator for xaden doesn’t suit him tbh. i feel like it’s too much of a deep voice considering xaden is only like 23.
overall it’s good and im definitely going to finish this entire part. can’t wait for part 2. :)

stick to the original

Sadly, this production from GA was really subpar, which is a shame since I'm a fan of their version of Innkeepers Chronicles. I am not sure if it's rushing or whoever did the abridged script, or writer/editor didn't read the original book, but it's a mess.

cons: The narrator for Violet needed to double check pronunciations. The mini-intro quotes are super confusing if you've never read the books because it comes out of nowhere or in the middle of a monologue/scene unlike in the books which are used to introduce a new chapter. There are multiple post-production issues with clashing or long pauses between tracks of Violet's monologues and other character lines. At times I felt like I was listening to different tracks. I dnfd this title after 2 hours and felt that a review needed to be posted for anyone keen to try this version.

I loved the story and the way the world came to life and developed. The characters were all well developed and the heroine is amazing! Can’t wait to start the next one!

Story is great

I prefer the original audio with out the dramatisation. The narrator in the simple version is fantastic and had a more mature voice than the lead in this version

Expected Better

I’m a massive Empyrean Series and Graphic Audio fan but wasn’t very impressed with this version. The way some of the words/names were pronounced are off. People’s expressions and way of speaking were different to the book, eg. in the book a character may shout something but they just casually say it in this, may seem trivial to mention but it happens too regularly. I think you’d enjoy it though if you hadn’t read the book or listened to the normal audiobook.

Holy Heck this surprised me, you need yo give it a go.

I used a token to listen to this version mostly out of curiosity and I like dragons I guess, kinda knowing I'm definitely not the "target audience". Mate, I bloody loved it. finished it in 3 days and I can't wait for part 2.
The books clever and funny, vicious and exciting and wildly interesting, This Author is seriously awesome. Such a cool world they've built. The cast performance is on point for the, not sure what they call it? Live action book? I was hooked!

Audible is mostly for my drive home from site, I listened to this title all weekend! Was a bit funny to listen to the protagonist describe the blokes she's into, bit different from my usual perspective haha. Holy hell I loved this Audible.
