About this listen

In this pause-resisting, poignant saga of love, loss, control and miscommunication, one woman treads a tightrope between marital loyalty and powerful maternal instincts.

Three husbands have tested Phyllis' aspirations of marriage and motherhood to the full, and now she faces a dilemma. If she accepts a fourth marriage proposal, might the consequences rock the turbulent path she already treads alongside her four offspring? Her decision could change her future and family dynamics forever.

Thought the main character to be a selfish, self centred drama queen.
Whilst the sudden loss of her beloved Jack was heartbreaking I felt she wallowed in self pity.
I really felt that she should have stayed in her marriages until her children were older……I therefore found it hard to sympathise with her.

I enjoyed this story initially. Good characters that I could picture, and the story was interesting even when I could see what was coming. But as it went on and on, it felt repetitive and the main character's eternal looking back, complaining, blaming and lack of self reflection got tiresome. I started to get annoyed at hearing how perfect one husband was, how horrible one child was, how awful her dad was, etc.

OK story, long
