Inspired to pursue a career as a plastic surgeon to help those who suffer as he has, McDonough has overcome numerous other adversities on his journey, including addiction and a stroke. Now he shares his incredible true story of survival and perseverance to bring hope and healing to those dealing with great physical and emotional pain.

Outstanding

Well written and well read. I could easily relate to having an alcoholic parent, but luckily other circumstances and events changed my path. That helped me to turn my younger brother. Neither of us got caught in that trap thanks be to GOD. I can't help but think some of Mark's medical problems could have been avoided if he had seen a Chiropractor. I am really rejoicing that he allow God to be the boss in his practice. Great book.

Faith and perseverance throughout all.

This book tells of a young life turned tragic, and continued issues throughout life-yet the author's strong will, and most importantly, his faith helps to carry him. It's not a goopy, religious story at all. Just a simple addition to the explanation of how he was able to sit with his feelings while he processed things that were happening.
I knew he was going to tell of his GBS before he said it as I had it too. Also, the MVP. Most of My family has it.
I wish the author well. I can't say enough about how much I admire the goal-setting, and the actual succeeding with life and death going on around him.

Subject Matter Expert

Very in depth, medical & religion. Can’t judge a book by its cover but the preview is pretty accurate. However, I was hoping for more of the latter part about his active life than the gruesome details of the back story - although necessary once I finished the book. If nothing else, it is a great God story and the bigger plan/picture. It is faith and perseverance themed. I had to increase the narrator up to about 1.6x speed to get through the book.

Excellent testimony of faith and perseverance!!

The author is honest, transparent and exceptionally descriptive of all of his tradegy, trials and triumphs. His testimony is an excellent discourse on the faithfulness of God. There are only a few books that I reread annually, this will definitely be one of them. Bravo!!!

Amazing Life

The author is the survivor of pain and suffering and loss that seem too much to bear. Yet he has led an amazing life that is an inspiration to others. The narrator was completely convincing, as it seemed like he was really the person undergoing this amazing life.

Inspiring Story

I very much enjoyed this book and the narration was great
despite so many hurdles Dr. McDonough prevailed.
