Helpful Book

The book is ok. It's a bit dry and some parts it looks like that they just try to summarize things instead of trying to teach fundamental thinking.

30 minutes in, maybe total 5 sentences good info

This might be OK for a middle school student curious about careers in forensic accounting. But even for that kid, the level of repetition and padding would be taxing to the attention span. How many times do I need to hear this field is fast-growing (with no data behind the claim)? I have heard it here about a half-dozen times in the first half-hour. If you have no clue what forensic accounting might in any sense be, this might be useful for you. But for me it doesn't approach its sales pitch. This is WAY basic and repetitive. With a half-hour of precious time wasted so far, I cannot indulge this author another minute to find out, against all evidence, if it gets any better. Oh, and the writing quality is sub-standard for a business related work. It sounds like it was dictated or otherwise somewhat tossed-off, (and I'll bet I could do better, straight off the cuff, with no prep) and not carefully edited after that.

Highly Recommended

He even has a web link so you can practice what he is showing you with excel sheets. If you can get it used, great, if not, and this interests you, it might be worth spending the money for new. He also has another book out which also looks interesting.

Good Audible Book

Forensic accounting is a fascinating subject, almost like a mystery novel. Can't put it down. Subject seems to be well-covered and authors provide great detail. Too bad there are so many examples and case studies.

Lovely informative

This book has tests that will be new and valuable to seasoned forensic accountants as well as some basic tests that will be immediately usable for beginners. If you have Excel or Access and your own data, then you could probably use many of the tests in the book right away. This book shows how to run most of the tests in both programs. It should be useful to forensic accountants, auditors, and other accounting and finance types who work with data.

Super Audible

The author starts with some high-level overview tests and then drills deeper into the data to find irregular patterns. The Relative Size Factor tests and the Same-Same-Different test have been used with much success in detecting problems with accounts payable data.

Excellent

I found this to be a helpful book. The data analysis tests in Forensic Accounting can be used as high-level reasonableness tests to determine whether private or public sector data is free of fraud, errors or biases. While the tests can't guarantee that everything is clean and correct, they will detect the larger and more obvious errors.

A good book on an important subject

The book is written for forensic accountants, internal auditors, external auditors, and almost anyone else that has an interest in detecting fraud and other anomalies in corporate or government data. The focus is on getting practical results, and the text would be readily understood by readers with a business degree and an enthusiasm for data analysis.

Grab this book

This author does an excellent job of creating a text that goes beyond theory and demonstrates how to use the tools necessary to actually detect and analyze fraud and accounting anomalies. The book is technical by nature.

Very Nice

The book provides keen insights to the internal diagnostics of the data, distribution of numbers, distribution of amounts across time, the source of spikes, and signs of number invention and rounding to help identify issues for further analysis.
