About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Teddy Crutcher has won Teacher of the Year at the prestigious Belmont Academy. Everyone thinks he's brilliant. Only you know the truth.
They all smile when he tells us his wife couldn't be more proud - though, if they stopped to think, they would realise no one has seen her in a while.
They're impressed when he doesn't let anything distract him - even the tragic death of a school parent. Even when the whispers start, saying it was murder.
You're sure Teddy is hiding something about what happened that day. You're sure you can prove it.
You just didn't stop to think that when it comes to catching a killer, there's no place more dangerous than just one step behind....
©2021 Samantha Downing (P)2021 Penguin Audio- This was a fun roller coaster ride. I loved the cat and mouse games between the devious characters.
- Teddy carried the story. I love being in the head of a villain protagonist. The way he rationalizes things to himself was so entertaining and twisted (he gave me Joe vibes).
- 5 star ending! Very fitting!
- I listened to this on Audible and the actor was so good. At first I didn’t like him because I thought his voice sounded flat, sarcastic and when he voiced other characters, especially females, they sounded almost comical. But after learning more about Teddy it was actually very fitting! I felt like this was how other people sounded to Teddy - incompotent so it actually worked out.
~ What I wanted more of ~
I wish there was more tension, wits and confrontation. I never felt like I was on the edge of my seat thinking how would he/she get out of this pickle. Everyone knew something damning about each other and did some devious things behind the scenes however not much tension actually came out of it. Everyone dealt with the situation quietly and calmly. I discussed specific examples in my goodreads review
There was finally tension and confrontation at the end, I just wish there was more of it throughout the book.
FYI:
There was no mystery as such. You’re in this for the crazy plot with devious characters.
