About this listen
The psychological thriller from the author of #1 bestsellers The Magpies and Because She Loves Me.
It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, a final adventure before settling down. But after a perfect start, an encounter with a young couple on a night train forces Daniel and Laura to cut their dream trip short and flee home.
Back in London, Daniel and Laura vow never to talk about what happened that night. But as they try to fit into their old lives again, they realise they are in terrible danger—and that their nightmare is just beginning...

The writing is seamless and skilful with only a handful of typos. The characters are well defined and the story darkly interesting. Part of the action takes place in Romania. I am originally from there and I thought the author did a good job when it came to all things Romanian.
The story may seem unrealistic, but this is a supernatural tale with lots of twists and turns. It's really quite creepy and it keeps you on your toes.
I did find a couple of problems with the novel, but I won't voice them because it might affect and influence negatively with the overall readability of his work, (which is great).
Good work Mr. Edwards.

It might’ve been a great story if it weren’t for all the godawful waffling. The protagonist is so unlikable. There are actually times he speculates about things already experienced by the reader & speculated about repeatedly (also experienced by the reader) AND THEN thinks “that doesn’t matter now” and the reader can only say “no f****ng sh** - why have we spent so much time going over it you idiot f***wit?!”
I was most excited at the prospect of him being shot in the face - he thought “I deserve this” and I nodded emphatically, because yes, yes you do you boring stupid twat.
I had to listen to it sped up to get through. I would’ve been skimming a lot had I been reading.
The narrator was ok, but I couldn’t take the female characters seriously because of his voices. Sometimes I wish they wouldn’t even try.
Sooooo Tedious -
