About this listen

When you're the best at what you do, it's not always easy to walk away. Nathan McBride was retired. The trained Marine sniper and covert CIA operative had put the violence of his former life behind him. But not anymore. A deep-cover FBI agent has disappeared along with one ton of powerful Semtex explosive, enough to unleash a disaster of international proportions.

The U.S. government has no choice but to coax Nathan out of retirement. He's the only man with the skills necessary to get the job done. But almost as soon as Nathan reluctantly accepts the assignment, he finds himself caught in the middle. On the one side is a ruthless adversary with a blood-chilling plan - and on the other are agents who will stop at nothing to see their own brand of justice done.

A story with several twists and an enthusiastic performance.
We’ll worth the 12 hours it takes.

Great American FBI mystery story.

Listened to the whole series and loved it. Narrator tends to sound a bit punch drunk during the action scenes and could perhaps offer a bit more voice differentiation to the characters.. But overall 5-stars.

The Series is worth a listen

I knew nothing about Nathan Mcbride and his creator Andrew Peterson.
And how I found him is quite relevant here...
I have some narrator heroes - and among them a couple of superheroes.
Like Dick Hill.
Whose Jack Reacher is the quintessential Reacher.
Whose narration of the Lee Child novels is so perfect that once I discovered him, I stopped reading the books first. I would find a Dick Hill narration and only read he book later.
So when I was a bit lost for an audiobook, craving a Lee Child/Jack Reacher type of novel, I thought ... hmm, let;'s see what Audible has that's narrated by Dick Hill.
And so I found Jack Reacher's "brother by another mother", Nathan Mcbride.
I downloaded this book, the first in the Mcbride series.
Wow. What a wonderful read!
I will stop the comparison with the Lee Child novels, only because that would be disrespectful to Andrew Peterson.
I'll just say that if you enjoy Jack Reacher, you will enjoy Nathan Mcbride.
I did - and boy, am I looking forward to working my way through the rest on Audible, because of the pleasure of listening to Dick Hill narrating them: A superlative craftsman, plying his craft.
Well written, beautifully paced - like a good action thriller should be - my kind of "tortured soul" hero (literally! in this case) - and very likeable characters. Some writers are happy to show that they care about human beings and human relationships, and Peterson is one such author.
And he likes dogs. And certainly doesn't like bad guys.
What more do you need? Download and enjoy.

A fabulous listen for more than the usual reasons

I simply could not get into this book at all. I could not make it past the end of Chapter 2.

Not worth the effort.

Not my type of book!
