Publisher's Summary

Natural wildfires are raging out of control. Years of fire prevention programs have left huge stores of timberland which fuel massive burns. Brave teams of wilderness firefighters assemble to combat the infernos from land and air. Among them are the skilled pilots, flying military surplus airplanes, converted to water-bombers. With newer technology and the phasing out of the post-war air-tankers, these vintage aircraft and specialized aviators may soon become obsolete.

Soaring through smoke-filled skies to douse the flames – Fire Angels. At the Fire Angel air base in Pocatello, Idaho, a ragtag group of aerial firefighters face increasingly intense forest fires. These skilled airmen fly in low, targeting water drops on raging wildfires with post-war, military surplus airplanes. As the fire-bombing crew struggles to compete in the changing times, a corporate team comes in to streamline the operation or liquidate its assets. It seems their plans for modernization don’t include the outdated aircraft or aviators. The transformation of the air base may be the end of an era.
