About this listen

For most Christians, God is He. That’s the unnoticed wallpaper of our Christian lives, impacting our understanding of both God and ourselves. Finding God’s Feminine Side is an invitation to discover the beautiful, but often overlooked feminine imagery for God in the Bible and an exploration of why our view of God has been so masculine, why that imbalance might be a problem and what we might want to do about it.

Entering this territory inevitably raises difficult questions. Questions about the Bible, which carries the marks of having been written in the context of ancient, patriarchal societies. And questions about the church, which undeniably has been marked by patriarchy, sexual discrimination and misogyny. This book explores those questions both honestly and sensitively. There is a freedom that comes from hearing someone explore the questions that have been quietly bothering you but that you thought you weren’t allowed to ask. The book is confidently egalitarian in its stance, while having an awareness that others might not share that view.

For most of us, our private prayer and corporate worship is dominated by a view of God as masculine. So, finally, the book begins to explore how we might go about integrating a more holistic view of God into our spiritual lives.
