Story
The body of a young girl lying face down in a swimming pool - white tennis shoes still on her feet, chestnut hair fanned out like a halo - is the last thing Detective Josie Quinn expects to find on an early morning visit to see her brother before class at Denton University. But when she recognizes the girl’s face as she drags her limp body from the water, there’s only one question racing through Josie’s mind: How does a champion swimmer accidentally drown?
Publisher's Summary
"She lifted the flap of the envelope and pulled out the single white page. As she opened it up she stared, open mouthed. Four words were typed on the page. I am watching you."
When Amy Whyte and Penny Brogan leave a local nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning and don’t arrive home, their families are beside themselves with worry. Conor Dowling has just been released from prison, a man full of hatred for Amy, the girl who put him behind bars in the first place.
The case is given to Detective Lottie Parker when the girls’ blood-soaked bodies are found, days later, in a derelict squat. Chillingly, both girls are clutching silver coins in their hands - what message is this killer leaving behind? All the signs point to Conor, but his alibi is watertight.
As Lottie examines Penny and Amy’s final days alive in a desperate search for clues, two more girls are found stabbed to death in a luxury apartment complex. Caught up in what is fast becoming her toughest case yet, Lottie is unaware that somebody is watching her every move.
Then Lottie’s two daughters, Katie and Chloe, suddenly disappear from the town centre. Terrified that the killer has her girls, the stakes have never been higher for Lottie.
But as Lottie puts everything on the line to find her daughters and solve the case, she’s about to find herself in terrible danger - someone has a personal ax to grind with her, and they know the best way to get to her is to hurt the ones she loves the most.
If you love Karin Slaughter, Robert Dugoni, and Rachel Abbott, you’ll be hooked by this heart-stopping thriller from Patricia Gibney.

Six Might Be Enough
I was so excited to see that this had been released. The characters in this series are so vivid and multi-dimensional, and the previous books have been enjoyable - even if sometimes I would like to shake Lottie. I was hopeful at the beginning as it seemed that Lottie is off the bottle and pills and might make better choices. Not so much. Gibney has transitioned Lottie from simply flawed like the rest of us to downright unlikable and frankly, stupid, at times. The storyline didn't flow in this one like the previous five. The not-very-startling reveal of the killer was just made silly by the motive for the crimes. Lottie's treatment of Boyd at the end actually made me angry, and her kids are placed in mortal danger in every book. While the girls were missing, there was too much playful banter between her and Boyd. It was just unrealistic. This seemed like the perfect storyline for Lottie to find a good balance at work and home, but instead Gibney has turned her into a character that I'm not sure I care about anymore, and that is indeed a bummer!!

Recording could be better
I do enjoy ‘this series of books, although they are getting a little bit repetitive with one of Lotti’s family being put in danger. The main issue I had with the recording is that the different chapters or parts ran into each other with no obvious break. So you were with one character and then you with another scene without a break making it difficult to follow at times.

Enthralling Story
The pace of all Patricia Gibney’s Lottie Parker series are just right. This one is no exception. You are led down towards the reveal of whodunnit, getting there before Lottie. I love the ‘will they, won’t, they’ relationship of Lottie and Boyd. Your heart aches for Kirby. I’ve never felt the books are too long. Pitch perfect.
