Story
It has been over a year since the war began. A year since China launched its surprise attack on America. EMP and cyber weapons plunging much of the nation into a dark chaos. Thousands of anti-ship missiles gutting the US Pacific fleet. A Chinese-allied North Korea launching an all-out attack on South Korea. Chinese information warfare campaigns triggering America to launch a nuclear strike on China's own nuclear stockpile. And the international political consequences that followed.

For a moment Wilson froze and looked at the white-helmeted pilot who sat high on the nose of the colossal fighter. Across the small void, he saw the pilot's eyes peer over his mask. Dark, chilling eyes. Wilson kicked right rudder to slide closer and jam any chance for a bandit gunshot. When the bandit pulled all the way over, almost on its back but in control, he cursed in frustration at what he knew was coming next.

Wilson shot a glance over his right shoulder at San Ramon. In addition to the blinking of anti-aircraft artillery guns, he could see clouds of smoke on the field from the numerous Slash hits. Breathing through his mouth, he concentrated on getting fast and maintaining a slight climb. Bright fireballs of AAA shot by him in groups of three and four, orderly trails from low to high. His body was tense, ready for impact. He felt and heard the thud behind, on his right.

The President of the United States had reason to be grateful. Dirk Pitt had unearthed the greatest storehouse of knowledge in the ancient world: the Alexandria Library. The trail began in a lonely fjord in Greenland. It ended on the banks of the Rio Grande. In between Pitt had frustrated an assassination, rescued a hijacked liner, survived a deadly gun battle and halted an invasion. A gripping, action-packed story by a master of the craft.

Story
From a secret island base in the Java Sea, Liu Pen’s research team is developing a genetically engineered version of smallpox. A dangerous biological weapon to be unleashed upon the West. But when US intelligence catches wind of the plans, Commander Joe Hunter and his crew aboard the USS San Francisco are deployed to neutralize the threat...before catastrophe strikes.
Publisher's Summary
Final Bearing, co-written by Don Keith and Cdr. George Wallace, USN (retired), a former nuclear submarine captain.
Juan de Santiago is not only a billionaire coca grower, he is also a deranged revolutionary; the commander of the most powerful private army in South America. Backed by power-hungry rogue nations who supply him with the latest weaponry, de Santiago devises a plan that will dishearten the American antidrug effort and make him El Jefe once and for all.
A successful soldier in Florida's antidrug war, Tom Kincaid is an expert on Colombia, with connections that lead directly to Juan de Santiago himself. But when US politicians demand a publicity-driven drug bust, they blow the cover of Kincaid's carefully crafted network, leaving most of his informants dead, and get the DEA agent exiled to the relative backwater of Seattle. Commander Jonathan Ward and his crew on the old attack sub Spadefish are on one last mission. They are to launch a strike that will put de Santiago and his empire out of business for good. They are getting help from Bill Beaman and his SEAL team, who are searching for the secret laboratories of de Santiago.
Following deep jungle trails and hiking the lofty mountains of the ancient Inca Empire, they are intent on driving a stake through the heart of de Santiago's drug empire. But there is a leak in the Colombian government. Beaman and his SEALs are being stalked.
From the old highways of the Incas to the plush haciendas of the drug lords, guerrilla armies are lurking, striking out at those who threaten their lucrative trade. And at the same time, a futuristic mini-sub leaves Colombia. Destination: Seattle. And it is loaded with the most lethal, addictive substance known to man.

Great story. Narrator, lol
Loved the story. Characters somewhat believeable. Plenty of action and twists. The narrator was kind of a beating though. He sounded somewhere between Hank Hill and the Indians in old western movies trying to speak english. I gotta admit, I liked him shouting over the 1MC's (communication systems) of the Spadefish. His command voice was made for that. HOORAH NAVY!

Terrible Story
Worst book I listened too so far! Would not have even finished it if I had another book in que.
Story: Weak and unbelievable premise. Characters weak and unreal no background or depth to them.
Performance: Horrible! Was simply read by performer not acted, also was like a child reading a book for the first time. One staccato monotone voice would quickly bore you! This performer should only read technical manuals for people to train with.
Overall: Complete waste of time and money!

Awful narrator
The story is good, but the narrator is terrible. If you’re narrating a book about nuclear submarines, please learn not to say “nu-killer.” Many other mispronunciations as well, and rather monotonous.

Deserves more stars, but......
An enjoyable yarn....just the ticket for a bit of light entertainment, totally spoiled by the worst narration I've yet to hear on Audible. Sorry, mate, but you sound like a AI generated voice via a vintage tranny speaker reading from a blurry photocopy with no punctuation. And don't make silly noises like walkie-talkie burps.
I'd have returned it immediately if it wasn't such a fun story.
