Den 10-årige Albert skal med familien (6 i alt) på ferie, men charter er for dyrt, så hans papfar finder på den geniale ide at købe en bus og selv køre til Italien. De finder og køber hurtigt en bil, der er til salg af byens købmand, men de er knapt nok nået ud af indkørslen, før den bryder sammen. Skov (sælgeren) er overhovedet ikke indstillet på at betale for reparationen, så ferien hænger i en tynd tråd.
