Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Publisher's Summary
"Real science in Science Fiction. This is a must read for fans of SF." >(John S. Gertsch, Amazon Reviewer)
Perfect for fans of Peter F. Hamilton, Iain M. Banks, and Orson Scott Card, Fear the Sky is a hard-hitting sci-fi thriller that will have you looking at the stars in a different way.
In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out. Their technology is vastly superior to ours, and they know they cannot possibly lose the coming conflict. But they, like us, have found no answer to the destructive force of the atom, and they have no intention of facing the onslaught of our primitive nuclear arsenal or the devastation it would wreak on the planet they crave. So they have flung out an advance party in front of them, hidden within one of the countless asteroids randomly roaming the void. They do not want us, they want our planet. Their Agents are arriving.

Exciting and inventive, if a little drawn out.
Whilst I concur with other reviewers that the book is slow to start but grabs you eventually, I kept getting frustrated at the often, all too elaborate thought processes that the author went into with some characters situations. At one point, I had to laugh at how obviously hard the author was trying to make me feel for a characters particular situation! However, the plot itself was exciting and appealed to my desire to see some real sci-fi technology used and explained well. Once again, R.C. Bray nails the performance, bringing so much life to each character. Looking forward to the next one!

Couldn't finish this one.
I was initially attracted to this title by RC Bray as I had enjoyed his performance of The Martian and I enjoy Sci-fi. Sadly, the story moved along too slowly, the characters were one dimensional and dialogue felt somewhat contrived to the point where I didn't feel I could sit through it. I will probably give it another go one day but I'm afraid this one wasn't entirely up my alley.

Slow start but worth the wait
Very slow start made worse by the shock of the monotone, emotionless narration but battle through that and once you get into it, it’s a very gripping story. Well worth the listen.

Not a great audiobook
I think this might be a novel that is better read than listened too.
I liked the narrator in other books but not sure if he suited this one. Found myself drifting off a lot.
