Publisher's Summary

Since she was 14, singer Sophie James has been an international superstar. With her career (and life) directed by her manager, Ray, she hasn’t had to worry about a thing for more than a decade...not where she goes, not what she sings, not who she is. But when Ray has a heart attack, Sophie is left without the only real father figure she’s ever known and questioning everything she believes about what’s important to her.

Enter Dana Landon, the new manager sent by Sophie’s record company. Dana is gorgeous, sophisticated, and ready to do her job keeping Sophie’s career on track, and making the record company money. Dana captures Sophie’s attention in ways Sophie never expected and isn’t ready for, but after so many years of being told what to do, Sophie’s ready to shake things up with some ideas of her own. Ones Dana hasn’t been planning on and isn’t at all sure she likes.

Disappointed.

Since I am one of the first people to review this book, I feel it is my responsibility to warn all of you out there who are Georgia Beers and/or Lori Prince fans to stay away from this one. Spoilers ahead y’all... Iif I didn’t know, I would’ve thought this book was released in 2001. The plot is so 1999. The big drama in this movie is so stereo typical that it’s almost embarrassing as a lesbian to read it. The big problem with these two main women getting a HEA is... one is famous (which they don’t really go into much detail about her celebrity i forgot multiple times she was famous) and her manager is a lesbian. The famous one is in the closet even though there is no mention of her sexuality or any flirting or any kind of link between the two characters prior to them sleeping with each other. Oh and the one “huge, sexy, romantic” moment is on a small bed in one of the girls’ parents house on thanksgiving, with her whole entire family under the same roof. So frickin unsexy... This is not a slow burn romance, this is two girls just chatting with each other for over half the book. They talk about mundane, and very boring things, then they have to sleep on a bed together and wake up in the middle of the night and start making out. Despite there is no talking about it prior, no indication that either of them liked each other. Ok, there was probably a couple mentions about how one or the other internally discussed how attractive the other one was. There’s literally no flirting in this book, chemistry, no romance, no slow burn, nothing. This book is so vanilla it makes my freaking ears hurt. I really wish I could get my money back but at least I got to listen to Lori Princes’ voice for a few hours. Even though it’s one of her worst performances. If anybody knows/loves Lori Prince, listen to the sample audio, notice she sounds bored reading it. The huge conflict! 🙄🙄 “Did it mean anything to you, our night together?” –Sophie, the celebrity character to Diana, her manager, directly after Sophie does the most stereotypical lesbian action of all, spying on the other chics phone. That’s the moment. The climatic moment of this book. Also the first time the two protagonists even mention sleeping together that one time.

Loved it

Sweet story, nothing to cringe or wince at here. With well crafted characters and a solid plot, it's Beers at her absolute best. Add to that, the way Prince seems to effortlessly inhabit all of Ms Beers' characters makes this a 5-star listen.

Must read!!!!

I was hesitant to get this book because it was only 8 hours long. I kept coming back to it BOY AM I GLAD I GAVE IN! Georgia Beers and the narrator, Lori Prince, did not disappoint! The story was great and Lori did an amazing job. She was amazing at capturing the raw emotion of Sophie, the youth, conflict and the loss of her manager Ray. I wanted more, I wished that the story was longer! But, Georgia Beers did n amazing job at character development. I bought the book because I wanted to save my credit for a more robust book. This book was worth it!

Fantastic

I loved this one, especially the world building of the celebrity-singer's life. I've listened to several Georgia Beers' books with the Audible Escape package, but used a credit for this one. Well worth it! I'd love a sequel...

Loss opens you to the life ahead and within.

I received this as an ebook in a give away. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to have the audible. Lori Prince does a spectacular job bringing the characters to life. Georgia Beers has given a saucy, coming of age story that gives hope to hear your heart at any age. I loved how Sophie and Dana connected and held each other. Beautifully written, magnificently told and a must have in my library!

OMG = I love Georgia Beers Stories

I love Georgia Beers Stories and the performance was beyond amazing. The whole book left me lifted up, knocked down, and then lifted back up as the ending creating a tear fest while I was driving. I had to stop driving and just take it in. The song Fear of Falling stabbed my heart. This is my favorite Georgia Beers book thus far.

Sweet and enjoyable

Although the story line is a bit soft, it is a sweet yet predictable story that is an easy listen, especially with Lori Prince. I was engaged enough to do many mundane chores like weeding the garden for 5 hours and allow my thoughts to follow the story and subtle thoughts provoked.

sing it gurl

first, Lori Prince is a stellar actress and narrator. thank you Georgia Beers for showing how a woman who has healed from hurt can acknowledge her codependency (it isnt named but the behavior described was CD) and move forward cautiously. we dont always see this is wlw novels - lesfic and wlw novels keep getting better and better. i embrace books that i can see myself in and can relate to.
