What a treat to visit again with Luc and Oliver and their rag-tag group of co-workers and friends. This story was such a great observation of parenting. Starting with getting a puppy and the feelings of not knowing if you will be any good at looking after it, then moving to fostering a 14year old bitter teenager and not knowing if you would be any good at looking after her. Jaz was difficult and very teenagery but also representative of the horrors of the system where kids are taken away into care and from their perspective there is no understanding why, and often a sense of guilt that it is their fault. I loved the slow thaw that happened as Jaz became, begrudgingly, more settled with L&O and mellowed, well only a little. Her relationship with Luc's mum was great too. Loved this and I wish there will be more, but I may have to get used to the idea that there may not be.
Joe Jameson is a genius. I am so glad he was able to read this book. He has created each and every character and they are all unique and wonderful. Bravo!

This was a big step up from Husband Material. The characters and conflicts were so real and Luc as a Dad had such great instincts and was so empathetic.

If I could give the performance a 6/5 I would- Joe Jameson is something special.

A book to give us hope when we need it. Father Material is laugh-out-loud funny (the Male Welsh Choir just keeps on giving), without sacrificing nuance when it comes to parenting/parent-child relationships, and the impact of children on friendship circles. I would recommend this to anyone who has a father, or friend, or dog, or sense of humour.

Lovely to catch up with Luc and Oliver. As always there are laugh out loud moments. There’s pathos and as always with these two the journey into fatherhood is nothing as you would expect. The narrator is excellent. So many characters with distinctive voices. Brilliant!
