About this listen

Mason and Logan Kade are two brothers who did their own thing. They were rich and expected to attend Samantha's school, Fallen Crest Academy. They chose public school, and now Samantha has to live with them. The problem is that she doesn't care at all - about them, about her friends, about her cheating boyfriend, or even about her parents' divorce. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe change is a good thing.

Fallen Crest High is a distinctly unconventional audiobook that stood out from other high school–set stories I’ve listened to. The plot follows Sam as her life changes abruptly after a family upheaval forces her into a new living situation, one that also introduces her to Logan and Mason Kade, two characters with complex reputations and unclear motivations.

One of the defining features of this story is how much is left unexplained. Character decisions are not always immediately clear, and the narrative often moves forward without spelling out every plan or intention. Rather than being confusing in a negative way, this approach creates intrigue and encourages the listener to stay engaged to see how events unfold.

The dialogue is fast-paced and sometimes dense, which worked particularly well in audio format. There were moments where conversations moved quickly enough that I had to pay close attention, but this added to the sense of momentum rather than detracting from the experience. The story frequently shifts direction, keeping the listening experience active and unpredictable.

Saskia Maarleveld’s narration was a strong match for the material. Her delivery was clear and consistent, helping distinguish between characters and maintain flow during rapid exchanges. The narration supported the tone of the story without overwhelming it, making it easy to follow even during more complex scenes.

Overall, Fallen Crest High is an engaging listen that doesn’t follow a typical formula. While it may not appeal to listeners looking for a straightforward or neatly explained story, it offers a compelling and memorable audiobook experience. I finished it curious to see where the series goes next and would continue listening to future instalments.

Unconventional and Addictive Listen.
