Publisher's Summary

Darkness falls on the Great Green, and the Ancient World is fiercely divided. On the killing fields outside the golden city of Troy, forces loyal to the Mykene King mass. Among them is Odysseus, fabled storyteller and reluctant ally to the Mykene, who knows that he must soon face his former friends in deadly combat.

Within the city, the Trojan king waits. Ailing and bitter, his hope is pinned on two heroes: his favourite son Hektor, and the dread Helikaon who will wreak terrible vengeance for the death of his wife at Mykene hands.

War has been declared. As enemies, who are also kinsmen, are filled with bloodlust, they know that many of them will die, and that some will become heroes: heroes who will live for ever in a story that will echo down the centuries.

Fall of Kings

Another fantastic book by David Gemmell, completed by his wife after his untimely death. The end of his Troy trilogy. One of the great works.

This was a let down.

I had read the original book when it was released. I loved the first two, the characters were deep and human. The story was complex and tragic, but this book was one dimensional and predictable. I believe with Mr. Gemmells death and the subsequent assistance of his wife and editor this story becomes a paint by the numbers sword and sorcery novel. This is a great shame because of how great the first two parts of the story were.

At least the horse thing was explained

As expected, gutting nearly totally displaced rutting in this volume. The seemingly thousands of deaths documented here makes one wonder how humanity (the people not the philosophy) could even survive. The series teaches us that the Great Green has no tide, but the rise and fall of the vast list of history’s personages was entangled in personal dramas. With some imagination we can speculate that the masses who supported them might also have had interesting lives. I generally avoid splatter books, hence only 3 stars,

storyline is fast paced and addictive (Even if it is quite corny in some sections).

Amazing take on the fall of troy!

I was blown away by the imagery and storyline that David Gemmell created. The twists, triumphs, and heart-wrenching moments were more than enough to make you feel like you were fighting the legendary Achilles yourself.
