Story
What to do if Matthew, your secret lover, finally decides to leave his wife, Sophie, and daughters and move into your flat, just when you're thinking that you might not want him anymore. Plan A: Stop shaving your armpits. And your bikini line. Tell him you have a moustache that you wax every six weeks. Plan B: Accidentally on purpose bump into his wife, Sophie. Give yourself a fake name and identity. Befriend Sophie. Actually begin to really like Sophie. Snog Matthew's son (who's the same age as you by the way - you're not a paedophile). Buy a cat and give it a fake name and identity.

You always remember your first love. Don't you? It began with four words. "I love your laugh." But that was 12 years ago. It really began the day Georgina was fired from The Worst Restaurant in Sheffield (TripAdvisor) and found The Worst Boyfriend in the World (Georgina's best friends) in bed with someone else. Publisher's Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Faking Friends by Jane Fallon, read by Sally Scott and Kristin Atherton.
Best friend. Soulmate. Confidante. Backstabber.
Amy thought she knew who Melissa was - then again, Amy also thought she was on the verge of the wedding of her dreams to her long-distance fiancé. When her career begins to unravel, she pays a surprise trip home to London. Her boyfriend Jack is out, but another woman has been making herself at home.... And that Other Woman is Melissa.
Amy has lost her job, her fiancé and her home in one disastrous weekend - but instead of falling apart, she's determined to get her own back. Piecing her life back together won't be half as fun as dismantling theirs, after all.

Charming, well written and fun
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narrator was superb, and really brought the protagonist to life, capturing the humour and charm of the narrative. The antagonist is a little too horrible to be believable as the protagonist’s best friend for decades. That was a weak spot in the credibility of the plot, but this is not the sort of book that offers gritty realism. Rather it offers a fun and absorbing listen. So the plot flaws didn’t lessen my enjoyment very much.
I’ll be looking for more of this authors’ books.

Schadenfreude to the max
This was a good book and though it’s in the chick-lit genre it’s not at all cheesy (not that it has to be, but it’s typically a main ingredient for chick-lit). The story delves into a deep-rooted, toxic, best friendship between childhood friends and the elements that hold it together and tear it apart. It explores the meaning and recognition of genuine friendships and how “schadenfreude” is not and should never be in the mix. Overall, the story is solid, character development is great, and the ending is truly satisfying.

Easy listening but...
The concept of the storyline is great but I found some of the relationships unrealistic. There didn’t seem to be any conceivable bond between the main character and her best friend which lessened the impact of the crux of the story.
Nonetheless it was entertaining and easy to listen to.

With the exception of the latest Helen Fields book, I’ve downloaded some really duds lately.
This one is boring, patronising & fluffy (not in a happy feel good way).

There are some real unlikable characters in this book. Thankfully, they get what is coming to them. A glorious tale of sabotage and consequence. Full of 'eyes-wide, is this really happening?' moments. Me and my wife enjoyed listening to this on a holiday road-trip so it gets 5/5 from us.
